Thoughts on BLU in 5.1 Discussion after the craze.

So, BLU has been out a while and things have died down. It's time for another discussion/survey on it to see how people like it. Just some basic questions to gauge how people feel about it. I obviously have my own basis, so I'll try and keep the questions fair.

    1. Do you like BLU now more than before? How do you feel about the job becoming more party orientated?

    2. Are you happy with the limited job system now? Do you feel like BLU is okay as a limited job or do you still want an unlimited one?

    3. Based on what BLU has now, are you looking forward to more limited jobs?

    4. What do you find most enjoyable, the content or the job? Do you think they are the same thing and do you think it can exist independently of each other?

    5. How do you feel about a rewarded mount being placed on the job as the carrot on the stick for the content?

    6. Do you still want an unlimited version of BLU? Would you be willing to have the job completely reworked? Do you want a version that is "unlimited" that can use the duty finder and be at the current cap? Are you willing to give up something so that resources and time can be provided to the Dev team to make that happen (could possibly mean giving up a new job at an expansion)?

    7. If this is all that BLU gets each expansion, you would be satisfied with it?

    8. Do you think the overpowered tools that BLU has are necessary for what you invision a BLU to be, even if it would to be unlimited?

    9. Did you play BLU more than if it had been a normal job?

    10. How do you feel about the continued exclusion of BLU from content like Deep Dungeon, PvP, and Squadron Missions?

    1. I do like BLU a bit more now due to some spells being more interesting and what I could imagine an unlimited BLU having.

    2. Still 100% not a fan of the limited job system and want an unlimited version of BLU.

    3. Not at all unless onion knight/free lancer was the only limited job and it had a larger scope. Something like a Diablo-lite aspect would be cool.

    4. I don't care for the BLU storyline so far and thought the carnival was boring besides stage 29. I believe the job and the content can exist independently.

    5. It's a page out of the WoW playbook from a few expacs back. Place a highly desired mount or glamour piece behind content that is not getting as much engagement as hoped for.

    6. Yes, I would like to see BLU be one of the 6.0 jobs.

    7. I think it's sort of a bad joke that Yoshi said that one of the reasons BLU had to be limited was that it wouldn't be fun for the BLU player if Level 5 death didn't work on raid bosses. While there are people enjoying limited BLU, I'm not one of them and I don't think the trade off was worth it as someone asking for BLU since 2013. I wanted to main the job and not have it be solely side content.

    8. BLU's identity to me isn't the spells. It's a job that can learn abilities from enemies and those make up the bulk of it's toolkit.

    9. Definitely do not.

    10. I just laugh to myself because the price to get BLU as it is was not worth it to me.

    1. Do you like BLU now more than before? How do you feel about the job becoming more party orientated?
It was advertised as a solo job. Turning it into a group job while still restricting it from regular group content just further highlights the flaws of the limited job concept.

    2. Are you happy with the limited job system now? Do you feel like BLU is okay as a limited job or do you still want an unlimited one?
It will never be OK as a limited job because the entire concept of limited job is flawed.

    3. Based on what BLU has now, are you looking forward to more limited jobs?
Hell no. Please no more limited jobs.

    4. What do you find most enjoyable, the content or the job? Do you think they are the same thing and do you think it can exist independently of each other?
Initially I liked hunting down the spells. But when that was roadblocked by needing to go into group content, for a job that was advertised as being for solo play, it took the fun out of it. I gave up trying to get the primal spells because I couldn't find a group. I never went back and tried again because there's plenty of content that isn't half-assed.

    5. How do you feel about a rewarded mount being placed on the job as the carrot on the stick for the content?
Frankly it peeves me off. They're treating half-assed content like it's full content.

This is what should have been done from the start. And there's no resources that need to be given up. Just treat it like a new job the same way DNC and GNB were.

    7. If this is all that BLU gets each expansion, you would be satisfied with it?
I doubt BLU will ever get much attention beyond this.

    8. Do you think the overpowered tools that BLU has are necessary for what you invision a BLU to be, even if it would to be unlimited?
    I don't understand what you're asking.

    9. Did you play BLU more than if it had been a normal job?
I would actually play it if it weren't a half-finished job.

    10. How do you feel about the continued exclusion of BLU from content like Deep Dungeon, PvP, and Squadron Missions?
This is one of the reasons it's half-assed.

    1. The focus on party play is a lot better then the solo aspect they tried and with things like 100% learn rates and the idea of building your blue mage however you want is a lot better but it still needs more work before I say its amazing.

    2. Limited jobs as an idea wasn't bad but how they did blue mage was not worth making it a limited job but after the patch I'm now mixed because parts of BLU make me okay with it being limited and others don't.

    3. I want them to finish what they wanna do with limited jobs and blue mage before they start on another because there still needs more fine tuning.

    4. It was a lot fun just going into dungeons or raids with other blue mages and trying to figure out how to handle things or just doing things that normally don't exist in the main game like using Ram voice to freeze enemies and they can't do anything about it.

    5. It should've been completing a raid tier got you a reward instead of 6 of the final floors. Like doing T1-T5 gets you the morbol while doing A5S-A8S gets you brute justice as a mount or something just so there would be more content for BLU to do.

    6. A part of me wants it but if they can improve on current blue mage then I don't mind the way it is. The current blue mage has a lot of promise compared to when the max level was 50 so I wanna see first what they can do.

    7. No it still needs work before I be okay with them stopping on it. Tanking on a blue mage is awkward and healers could use a bit more as well and I wanna at least be 70 before the expansion over and 80 if possible.

    8. Blue mage main thing has always been monster spells and what they can do and they could've made it worked regardless if it was limited or not. Making it so job quests gave the skills would've worked and they could choose not to give the overpowered skills.

    9. This is a unfair question just because if it was a normal job I can do normal things like roulettes and raids and the only people who would say no are people who don't care about leveling it.

    10. Not being able to do PVP and roulettes I understand and maybe squadron missions because the A.I could break I imagine. But Deep dungeon shouldn't have any restriction. It should just make it so BLU can't do matched parties and they don't get scores.

I probably should actually play BLU after the changes to be able to comment more fully. I originally got interested in it because of the solo aspect and the "endgame" that was supposed to contain puzzle elements based on the learned abilities. I never got to the masked carnivale though - I got stuck at the point where the job quest required learning a spell from a dungeon which I couldn't complete solo. I was further discouraged when I learned that some of those spells from dungeons and trials have a rather low chance to be learned. The fastest way to obtain them is running them unsynced with some max-level players and repeating enough times, but I don't like relying on others like that. And now I've heard from somewhere that completing Alexander savage with an all-BLU party is a requirement for something? I may return to BLU at some point but for now I have more interesting things to do, like finishing up my gathering and crafting classes which is actual solo content.

    5. It's an insult to put the morbol behind such a ridiculously niche and inaccessible achievement when there was an entire carnival, mountain of spells and 62 log entries that could have and should have been the "stick" instead. Like you want people to hook up and do the blue content together? Put the morbol mount behind content people will actually even want or be able to do, and you'd see the PF EXPLODE with groups and blue would be an absolutely bursting piece of content that everyone can work on and enjoy for a much longer shelf life. Heck I'd even prefer it if it was a High Roller like achievement series where you need the 80 spell achievement, 30 carnival achievement, Perfect Blue and Champion of the Blue feats, and all 62 blue log entries to get the mount. But this....it literally invalidates all the other blue content because the only really coveted reward is locked behind something that is like, 10% blue mage content and 90% hardcore savage raid content. 99% of the blue mages out there diligently and loyally participating in the main content will never see the one and only reward it has that is actually something worth slogging through all the bits and bobs of the class for. And no, a dozen different titles with the word Blue in them are not worthwhile end-of-the-stick rewards for most people.

EDIT: And to add onto that, what were they thinking when they made the currency rewards for the blue log so pointlessly small? Like, no one is going to do the log for those rewards, first time bonus or not. You could just...go do a single hunt somewhere and get more seals and poetics than most of the log entries. One casual roulette run will get you more of a reward than clearing a weekly prime target that is something absurd like T5. I just don't understand their though process on the reward structure for this content. At all.

    1. No. Becoming party oriented just shows that it is in fact able to run with parties, running raids as dps blu is like playing a pretty normal support dps

    2. Yes and No. I see why some people enjoy this version of BLU, but now more than ever there is no reason not to have an unlimited version of BLU updated alongside a limited version. Tweak the set of abilities that BLU takes for optimal dps and sprinkle in a few of the support abilities and youve got a Normal dps version that could be balanced seperate to the limited version

    3. What BLU is now has me worried for other limited jobs, they are absolutely going to step on each others toes and end up feeling too similar. BLU has access to every CC effect and a variety of tanking and healing skills, a beastmaster would likely be the same, only with the "spells" coming from a pet not the blu

    4. The content is just old raids in a new setting, its like the man mode runs from heavensward only on a class desinged to do man mode. As I said earlier, with what happened with BLU's kit this update, an unlimited version could easily exist alongside a limited version.

    5. Its just a carrot, and not a particularly interesting one either, as someone who literally just uses a chocobo to go everywhere and raids for fun with mates and self improvement, the morbol mount has no interest to me at least, and neither does running old content on BLU

    6. Yes. As previously stated, I think they could exist alongside each other fine, and I wouldn't mind it being the "new" job next expac. I also really hate the rescources argument, but yeah I wouldnt mind something giving for BLU

    7. I'd laugh about it honestly

    8. BLU doesn't need overpowered tools to be BLU, plenty of final fantasy games have shown that its not a part of its identity. A lot of the overpowered stuff it has is arbitrarily overpowered anyway, like stuns lasting really long, or %hitchance on level 5 death

    9. No

    10. Exclusion from all of those make little sense to me, some people are upset it would make the titles/ achievements easier to get, easy solution is just have a seperate set of achievements for blu doing the content. PVP makes no sense for it to be excluded, as every job has a stripped down pvp kit with no leveling or learn requirements on its stuff

    1. I do like BLU significantly more now than when it came out in 4.51. It was already party oriented when it initially came out and glad that they decided (or intended from the start) to go in that direction.

    2. The concept seemed interesting to me over a year ago, was a bit muddied in its early execution, but much needed ironing out made it more acceptable to me. The last part of this question kind of coincided with question 6. So I'll leave that for then.

    3. I am. Especially for jobs that I didn't think of ever seeing getting added in XIV. If you would've told me in early SB that it was possible that jobs like PUP or Morpher were potential candidates to be added, I wouldn't have believed you and that feels...exciting.

    4. It's hard to answer since these two subjects overlap a great deal. But if I must choose, I enjoy the job itself more than the content attached to it. Not to say I dislike MC, log and achievements, but it's fooling around with the spells and seeing ways to cheese certain things makes more for a goof and good time.

    5. Kind of a loaded question. If being consistent and fair, you can apply that point to a number of content ranging from crafting, exploratory content to Savage. I don't mind the Morbol mount being a reward for completing the most challenging BLU achievement, in the same way I don't mind the Demi-Ozma mount being locked behind reaching Hydatos, completing the story and clearing BA.

    6. Going with the line of questioning: nope. I'd much rather they just adapt another caster job for the role and keep BLU as is and keep working on it. There are plenty of jobs to fill that caster DPS spot, like Geomancer, Elementalist or Green Mage.

    7. I doubt this will be the only thing BLU gets this expansion since they have made it clear that they plan on adding rewards to the log and will likely make adjustments to like they did in 5.1. Not to mention there are about 48 spells left unaccounted for that they mentioned months ago. But I digress. To answer your question, I would be disappointed.

    8. It's more of a result than a feature. My idea of BLU was always a hybrid job that had a plethora of spells used for different niches. That versatility just doesn't work well in XIV where jobs and content aren't designed to fit multiple roles (besides Pyros and Hydatos sorta touching on the idea).

    9. Oh yes. To use an example: I leveled my BLM to 80 when ShB came out, but I haven't really touched it in about 2.5 months. If it were just another job I would more than likely forget about it and be annoyed to see the weapon clogging my frequently full armory.

    10. I don't fully understand some of these exclusion. And this is probably my main criticism of BLU. Maybe it comes from how the job gets its skills and how deep dungeons operate that prevents it from getting access? I'd be more than happy if it gets access to solo PotD/HoH and Eureka when it reaches the point.

    1. BLU does feel better to actually play now, but overall no, I am not any more fond of it than I was when it released. I didn't like the idea of solo content minigame mage, but I still wouldn't consider this "party oriented" when it still only does 4 year old content.

    2. There's nothing they can do at this point to sell me on the idea of limited jobs. This patch was their chance to, and it was just more of what we already had but with fancy window dressing UI. No, Blue Mage needs to be made into a real job, plain and simple.

    3. Gonna be blunt here, the limited job concept is trash. If they announce another one without some plan to eventually turn limited jobs into real jobs, as much as I LOVE this game, I'll be unsubbing. The fact that there's now a non-zero chance of future job fantasies possibly being punished into becoming a limited job has actually negatively impacted any excitement I can feel at job speculation and announcements.

    4. The aesthetic. I never cared much for Blue Mage in past games, but this game made me really like the aesthetic, it rivals Red Mage in coolness. I'd main it for aesthetic alone, I'll admit. Gameplay wise, when they actually do go wacky with spells, I do feel a twinge of fun, like Ravana's spell. But the Masked Carnivale is garbo, which is depressing seeing as I would like the idea of solo challenge fights, but these fights are just gimmicky spell checks that aren't challenging at all, barring the 29th stage, that one makes me even more depressed as a sign of what this content could have been. That said, I'd prefer if such a content were available for all jobs, instead of solely for Blue Mage as an excuse for limitation.

    5. Nothing much to comment on, it's just a hilarious attempt to goad people into doing the job so that they can pad the numbers of people doing the content and be like "See, it's a success!"

    6. Real "Unlimited" Blue Mage all the way. I maintain that it could just be unlocked as is and still be fine, but if they must rework it then do it. Considering we're already going to be giving up even more dungeons, I consider that being already a sacrifice to get it done. Blue Mage should have been a real job for Shadowbringers from the get go, so no, I do not consider giving the job its rightful due to be "stealing" a slot from another job.

    7. No.

    8. Overpowered? What overpowered tools? BLU...overpowered? Don't make me laugh.
On the few chances BLU has something that can be OP, it hasn't been very impressive. To answer, no, they only made those tools "OP" as an excuse not to put the work in to making a real job. Death or Doom could be a spell that has a 1000 pot, X-min cool down on enemies that resist the instant KO. The Tail Screw I learned off enemies didn't take me down to 1 HP, just did big damage, so there's no reason we HAVE to 1 to 1 mimic skills when a lot of BLU's other skills don't already. The Chirp I learned didn't inflict sleep, yet it does for us, etc, etc.

    9. Not even close, the competition isn't comparable. Sure I level jobs to 80 that I rarely touch upon again, but even then I still spend WAY more time leveling those jobs up than it took me to get BLU to max level with all spells each time so far, and that's without exploits.

    10. Arbitrary limitations for limitation's sake. Especially PvP, since the "b-but muh real Blue Mage!" excuse gets absolutely destroyed when every other job in the game gets handed PvP exclusive actions and level is meaningless.

    1. I still find BLU largely a disappointment and that devs took barely ant feedback into consideration. And the fact it keeps becoming more group oriented is literally proving it'd be better to just be a regular job that can be a healer tank or dps by having stances that change skills.

    2. It's a cool idea on paper but terrible in execution. BLU should be a normal job.

    3. absolutely not, if something like beast master was limited it'd be a waste of resources

    4. Honestly I can't say I do like anything about BLU as it stands upon reflection. The gameplay side is incredibly boring, 80-90% of skills being copy pastes with zero thought behind them.

    5. A sad attempt at incentivising people to play BLU longer but there's more Hades EX parties then BLU parties and Hades is older, so even a cool mount isn't getting people to stick around, should tell you the general reception of BLU.

    6. Yes it needs to be reworked into a normal job or multi job

    7. Absolutely not, too much filler copy pastes with no thought into them and very little incentive to use majority of skills.

    8. Not really, people should expect an mmo version of a job to play differently or have adjustments made.

    9. As with the majority of people who tried BLU? Nope. I hit cap then drop it til next cap solely invade they do rework it into a fun job or a regular job.

    10. Don't really care since it doesn't effect me. I have dozens of real jobs I can use, and I drop BLU fast.
