Character can't log in past loadscreen, caused by DIRECTX FATAL ERROR

First and foremost other characters can log in and play the game just fine, it is only my main named "Fabulous Stabulous" that cannot get online (my only character). At the end of loading screen it just goes black then crashes. Every time.

When I got the dreaded "Directx fatal error" my game crashed and I couldn't get back online from there. Thus begun 24 hours (3-4 of which online) diagnosing and fixing everything I could.
I reinstalled the game, I followed all the different sorts of instructions out there including trying DX9 and rolling back drivers, I went as far as wiping my drivers (NVIDIA specifically) and even registry and starting completely fresh. At this point I had 2 options, reinstall windows or open a ticket / email for help.
Well it's been several days I am still waiting, I feel if a GM can teleport my character to a new location that may help or solve the situation.

I recently re-subscribed and it does feel bad man to be locked out of the game, not at my own expense, because it has taken several days so far for customer service to see my email.
I hope my ticket, my email, or this post can be seen soon, and a GM can teleport my character to a home destination so I can try logging in again.

Good morning and thank you for posting in the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums

If it is only happening with this one character, you may want to try deleting the locally-saved data folder (My Documents > My Games > Final Fantasy XIV). Make sure to create a backup of this so you can replace it if it doesn't solve the issue. Could you also provide a system report? Simply go to the 'Config' option on the Final Fantasy XIV launcher and to the right of 'System Information' click on 'Display.'

Hello Dynratygus and thank you for your reply. I have already tried deleting all folders connected to the game. I have done everything I can do just shy of reinstalling windows or trying to log in on another computer.
I called my ISP, I reinstalled my routers firmware, I have wiped my registry.
The game works. Just not with the 1 character.
My ticket transferred me to email, and email took almost a week to reply to just to tell me to try the things I told them I already did. They ignored that that the game is working with other characters.


I have read and can imagine the character is somewhere strange in the world, and may require a teleport to a home location. If this is possible I think it may help.
Please try porting him home.

I hope this can be addressed soon. I am on holidays and am eagerly awaiting when I can play again. I resubscribed just recently and now have unfortunately missed the Christmas event, awaiting my email and ticket responses.
I know this is not your fault, I am just putting it out there.

If you have not done so already, could you try and do a cleanboot? Open the task manager and select the 'Start up' Tab. Disable everything here and restart the PC. For Windows.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I tried cleanboot. Instead of failing to load after 5-30 seconds and disappearing without error it simply loads indefinitely. Multiple tries, all indefinite loading screens.

I've appealed for a refund for the months subscription so I'm going to continue troubleshooting to the best of my ability for the next 2 weeks and hope for the best, if I can't win, it is what it is.
Maybe a character port or world transfer can help? I don't know how these things work, but again, the game is fully functional for other characters, and all personal folders both ingame and out have been discarded.

Had a friend with a similar issue like yours. Eventually even his alts couldn't get on, and even other games having the same issues. He's since reformatted his PC and the issue has been resolved for him. Since you mentioned it in the OP, I thought to maybe bring it up since it seems like nothing else has worked for you yet.

I have been diagnosing for so long I am just taking a break now and playing other games. I wanted to avoid reformatting because I've never done it, but hey we have to start somewhere I suppose.

Reinstalling windows fixed the issue.
