    In Defence of DPS meters.

Now under no circumstances am I advocating the use of a third party program. Nor do I use one myself. But I find the lack of ingame feedback to be quite appalling.

Now I understand that other games such as wow also have this in the Vanilla client. But they allow addons. So people may download useful things to get the info they need.

In FFIX there is no such avenue so people must resort to the third party program.

In game, Tanks have that neato lil bar on the party UI that tells them if they are holding aggro. Healers know they are doing well as people arn't dead. But DPS are left hung out to dry to try and figure out weather or not they are actually performing their job well.

Sure, The fact the boss is dead or you clear content means someone is doing something right. But if one is following the TOS to the letter you very well may be getting carried. As there is nothing in game telling you that you are, or are not pulling your weight as a DPS.

What I would like to see added to remedy this is a PERSONAL DPS meter. Something that shows the DPS of only you and no one else. One that is accurate and does not rely on parcing, but due to only knowing your own dps stops any negativity of comparing yourself to others. A tool to be used within raid groups to compare notes and see where one might improve. A tool where at this lvl and this Ilvl I can see what kinda damage I should be doing and work on my play to get myself there.

In closing. I see why SE is against a general DPS meter. Not having one stops the toxicity of people bashing others for poor DPS. But not having a DPS meter of any kind also makes it so those of us who do not use a third party program, do not have the information as a player to better ourselves and carry our own weight. A personal DPS meter would go a long way to remedy that.

And as a more advanced feature, should be defaulted to off in the UI. Maybe have a in game tip that tells you about it and how to turn it on if you choose to do so.

I second this. This at very least. If a 3rd party program can access network data and work with it, then so could the game.

As much as I think a personal DPS meter would be good, the Devs had said people might still use a personal dps meter to harass people by demanding screenshots. Its kinda dumb because surely thats what report feature is for, but in general they seem to be against things that could cause lazy players to get called out.

And this reply is why they are against it. Your assumption is that someone who is struggling is lazy, but there could be a myriad reasons why they are having issues that have nothing to do with laziness. They are a new player, they are new to the role, they are new to the fight, they take a long time to learn fight mechanics for whatever reason, they are disabled, their mouse/controller glitched, they got cramp etc and so on. I am not denying the existence of lazy players but the fact that it is your first assumption is very much the reason that parsers aren't allowed

I am not denying the usefulness of parsers to improve one's own gameplay either, I am pointing out that we are the reason why parsers are banned. Maybe if we stop behaving like knobs and treat other people respectfully (including not assuming I'm a guy, which is really starting to annoy me lol) then we might get our private parsers one day.

Im gonna be real, the lazy comment was more aimed at the other systems that have changed/ not been implemented, such as the Devs saying BLU would be hard because players would turn up only with water cannon, or the change of the cross role system because players were turning up to challenging content without essentials like quelling strikes and such. But to break down further, the lazy comment was more aimed at lazy not to report people as thats what its for. Also to be honest though yeah, lazy is the right word, if I'm level 80 running level 80 content and someone doesn't know how to string abilities together even on a class where combo's literally light up, I'm saying its lazyness, no amount of new to the fight covers it (especially if they turn up in a farm)

OK your not talking about laziness your responding about incompetency. Big difference.
Parsers will not work because people will use it to troll regardless of competency or laziness. They understand the potential of vile disdain players will take out on other for (pick your reason or none at all). Although the idea on paper I like implementing would bring to much headache.

Being level 80 has nothing to do with knowing your class hence skip potions and roulette and your at 80 in couplet of days.

Last night I did Prae on an alt to clear ARR and the other tank was level 70 and never mt or did the dungeon before Story skip level boost. Did ok but didn't use cd much so I mt instead. Point being Level does not mean you know rotations.

This is a poor excuse. I have SMN at 75, and despite having never played it until recently, I still took the time to look up the opener and getting a working understanding of how it all flows. I certainly won't be a top tier SMN but when I get it to 80, I'll at least be competent. If you're taking a job into Savage and have absolutely no idea what you're doing. That's poor laziness. You simply didn't care enough to practice beforehand.

All Valid points. Honestly if this was implemented you should be allowed to report someone for demanding your DPS #'s Its none of there business. Personally I pride myself on playing most jobs well. But all the DPS jobs I haven't clue how I'm doing.

Thank you for proving my point lev 75 smn and you wont be top tiered because your lazy. Again being high level does not matter with knowing the job. Practicing has to do with knowing rotations how and when to implement depends on competency. Also im not referring to Savage, if I was the only way to get competent party is static. PUGing it is a waste of time. But hey go ahead and lookup videos all you want. Your learn form doing not from watching imo.

No arguments here are new. People are too entrenched about this topic on both sides, I doubt you're going to change any minds on it.
