    So RDM and SpellSpeed...

Does RDM have a minimum threshold for SpellSpeed?
I have read everywhere that it is a pretty useless stat for RDM, since they have no dots and the like, so I have stripped a lot of spellspeed off.

I am wondering if there is a point where you have to keep some on, or should you just remove all of it, if you can?

I am at 1164 spellspeed on RDM, and thinking of stripping more off, but spells are starting to feel slow.

Well what its really good for since RDMs don't have DoTs... is really just the spell going off faster.

Consider how an RDM's general actions work... its Jolt + a Verspell. The casting time on the second spell is non existent. ONLY the casting time on the first spell matters. BUT... the shorter that is, the faster you can move after a cast.

So really its only benefit is being able to stand longer in an AoE before moving out of it.

What it really does mostly is just improve RDM mobility to cast on the run.

So... what's it worth to you?

Do you want more DPS or more Mobility, because that's really what its about for RDM.

ALSO consider how many other caster jobs you play and how much as you will be sharing gear with them. Something like SMN while Crit, Direct, and Determination are the first considerations... you can't go too low on Spell Speed or it will affect your DoTs. Black Mage or BLM has other considerations with spell speed.

So your decision may even get more complicated depending on the other Mage Jobs you play.

SMN doesnt want spell speed and having DOTs doesnt automatically mean spell speed is desirable. Whilst ss increases the damage of dots slightly, increasing your crit increases your damage more. SS primary purpose is getting classes to a point where you can fit your rotation in comfortably then prioritise better stats.

For the record its looking like the lowest GCD will be going on SMN this tier is 2.48, the only caster that looks like it needs any kind of speed is BLM and thats for squeezing out casts not for the dot damage

    Edit Skill to spell

I think you mean to say Spell Speed, But either way, I didn't say make it a primary or even say its a primary...

....I said you can't go too low with it or it will affect your DoTs.

What im trying to point out is the effect on the DOTs is so Negligible that most opt to have 0 Spell Speed so it shouldnt even be a consideration

Yeah, SMN wants next to no spell speed. It doesn't help us. Crit and DH is more damage than it.

Well with Summoner it depends on what you play mostly. Where Spell Speed will really show on a SMN is in dungeons.

Spell Speed will affect AoE situations more than it will Single Target situations. Mostly because Summoner Direct Damage attacks seriously depreciate per target. And with Garuda you use a lot more DoT power. A 10 target spread you can catch all in one shot with Bane, its not as easy with the other AoEs.

So it really depends on what you play mostly. If you're doing a lot of AoEs on large mob spreads its probably worth it to you, but if you're just mostly doing single target bosses it probably won't be.

Well, I hate playing BLM, so I think I honestly don't need spellspeed that much, so I'll be stripping all I can.
Thank you for all your replies and input so far
