Class Unlocking and Swapping

Hello,

Before starting to play the game I heard that I can swap between different classes and unlock other classes. What happens if I level a character up to level 50 or so and decide to make her into another class, will it bring my character back to level 1 on that class? Can I simultaneously level up two class in a single character by swapping weapons? I am confused about this whole class swap system and not sure what will be more efficient thing to do. Does anyone have a guide for swapping and leveling different class in a same character?

Think of it like real life. You have no specific level. Sure you're so many years old but that doesn't make you a level 50 human. Instead what are you good at? If you level Ninja to level 50 but never did a day as Black Mage, you're still going to be a level 50 Ninja and only a level 1 Black Mage. So the level of a job is separate from the rest of the jobs and unique to that character.

Thank you very much for explaining it so clearly.

It led me to another question, the server I am playing on giving me a exp buff for being a new player and I will receive it until I reach level 70. Now what if I reach level 69 while playing as lancer/dragoon and then decide to level up conjurer/white mage class, will I be able to use that buff to reach level 69 on white mage? And subsequently do that for all classes or jobs?

Yes, the exp buff is for every job up until level 70, not only for the first one.
It is also recommended to level more then one job anyway, because with the buff, the regular XP from the quests and other stuff (guild buffs, buffs from food and/or equipment) you will outlevel the mainquest very fast and "waste" xp if you concentrate on leveling only one job with it.

You don't lose the exp buff forever when you hit level 70 for the first time. It'll come back when you switch to any other pre-70 job.

Level 10, but only once you do your guild quest for that level. At the end, your guildmaster will say you're free to try out other guilds.


Also, a word of warning when swapping to a new class for the first time: make sure you're wearing level 1 gear because anything else will be unequipped! If you threw out your starter gear, you can buy it again from Maisenta's shop near the aetheryte plaza.

AKA: Slay gods when wielding an axe and be slain by mice when wielding a sword until you figure out learn how to use said sword equally well but in entirely separate fashion from how you learned to use the axe???
