    This would only create more issues. Reworking a job from the ground up, even from its weapon choice would mean alienating the players who are already accustomed to the job's gameplay and aesthetic. This is also just unnecessary in general. Also you realize Summoners (and Scholar even) use spell books, right? not ordinary books because they're mages? What is your point exactly?

    Both jobs at this point are separate from one another. Summoner hasn't been a heavily DoT-based DPS since Stormblood, even more so now in Shadowbringers. Literally the only thing the two jobs share (that they both do use) is Resurrection and Ruin II. Anyway, it's not broken so it doesn't need needless fixing.

    ARR thing:
    1) go to local bar, met bar guy, he/she tells you to sod off to grind 10 FATE before talking to them again
    2) done, they tell you to go do class quest
    3) lv10, kick you to novice hall, learn not to stand on bad stuff, learn non telegraph attacks, and stack marker.
    4)lv15, save the balls of your local city, let leader get you airship, and compulsory attune to every crystal and mini crystal of next city (athywadever).
    5)guildhest (or just remove this no one miss it maybe?)
    6) starsasha, where you received info at bar, go there, unlocked.
    7) copperbell
    8) tam tara
    9) anything up to ifrit (3 or less quest)
    10) join crystal braves, get chocobo
    11) Titan pre quest in 6 or less, must retain rock boulder competition with Tidus Slayer. (Restrict ingredients run to wine port take a bottle of wine)
    12) murder Titan
    13) pray return to waking sands and scream and go back see that grass pixie final words.
    14) meet Cid, go coethas, cannot get ship (a few quest), Cid 7 hell's that and build his own, kill garuda, meet ultima.
    15) make the rescue in 5 quest or less.
    16) castrum put cape westwind boss as first boss, Julia as second boss and Gaius as 3rd boss.
    17) praetorium (trial) people rush in face ultima weapon, put ultima as game mechanics for tank lb3.
    18) just put lahabread as endgame cutscene he's not important enough now.

    Post msq:
    1) smugboy move hq to more donuts, and crystal braves official become GC, but WoL moved to scion. (6 quest)
    2) moogle ramuh Leviathan become a quest, unlocked all 3 at same time.
    3) Shiva and final steps in 5 quest or less.
    4) betrayal.

    Hope it's simplified.

    This is a very important point that I agree 100% with. And it even has precedent in this game: HW bowmage and ShB AST. Both had massive gameplay changes (added castbars and overhauled card system) and both were (are, in the case of AST) one of the hottest topics of debate and criticism in HW and ShB, respectfully. BRD was changed to be less support oriented in ShB, and it’s still a topic of debate even after the 5.1 changes. Making massive changes to jobs that have played a certain way for x amount of years has a high potential for backlash.

    Fundamentally changing and overhauling a job after 6+ years of it playing how it does has the potential to create far more problems than solve anything. This isn’t to say they can’t make it more summon-heavy with added Demi summons or something like that because that has been well-received; but to rebuild it from the ground up just so it isn’t “a copy of SCH” would likely anger long-term SMN players. And to change it down to the weapon it wields would require a lot of retconning that would eat up more resources than I think some realize.

    Besides, SMN and SCH don’t play nearly as similarly now as Kaiserdrache is insinuating. In ARR, they’d likely have an argument because they shared the nearly the same DPS rotation down to all 5 DoTs (6 for SCH because Aero cross-class) and filler spells—but each expansion separates them further, and changes how they play. For one to say that SMN and SCH play the same now/are clones of each other insinuates that one hasn’t actually touched the jobs past level 50. I don’t play SMN that often, but I do dabble in SCH. I don’t feel like a SMN when I’m playing it.
