People keep going back to "he deserved the ban", but nobody's arguing that he didn't deserve it. Hell, the streamer himself said he deserved it. People keep going back to "ban all third party applications", that's an entirely different discussion: stop bringing it up.

What people are asking for clarification on is what constitutes valid and acceptable evidence from a source outside of the game for a report, because they never accepted it in the past and are now using it as grounds for a report. Whether it's a video or a screenshot or whatever, tell us. It's true that there will be people that twist the rule to avoid punishment. There will be people who hide their actions in other places as a result. However, if video evidence is now allowed for specific TOS violations, then people that stream need to know that since it subjects that subset of players specifically to a higher standard that people that don't stream are not. Even for people that don't stream, it's something to know so people that observe certain behavior ingame know that it is valid for a report. I'm not even talking about just RMT. If you see another player that is clearly not part of the RMT swarm but is hacking or botting, is taking a video valid evidence now or will it simply be ignored since they'll only accept video evidence for a specific subset of TOS violations?

Obscurity in how they catch violators and how the STF identifies members of the bot swarm is fine. I don't have a problem with that. Obscurity in how they enforce their own rules? That's absolutely insane.

I like when rules are clearly defined, even though I have no desire to break or even attempt to skirt them.

I don't think rules should be a grey area of ambiguous enforcement. If SE banned this guy for using DPS information to shame someone then that means they accept his parser as real and his twitch stream as an admissible source of information, so they should immediately be banning everyone who streams the game with parsing data on screen for use of third party tools. Or they should change the rules to say third party tools are acceptable to use as long as it's not for the purposes of harassment. But they shouldn't let some people freely break some rules while banning other people for breaking them, now that "it's fine as long as you don't say it in game" has gone out the window.

Yeah I read that too. And all the comments.

How the headline SHOULD have read is: Popular Streamer name-shames during Livestream. Gets ban.

No one would even argue this. The majority of the commenters support SE on this decision, and pretty much everyone agrees that this was not because of parsing but because of name-shaming and the potential backlash of harrassment that person is likely getting from it.

Besides that dude got a 10 day ban. Big deal. I would have supported a permaban. But he pulled the video and is serving his time, which is all SE asked of him. The End.

Are we really that surprised when players are getting death threats over streamed content?

So if SE is using twitch as evidence to ban a player, I saw on the same video that the black mage was talking sht to Arthars. That is also a violation of TOS so shouldn’t that black mage be banned as well? Since we are now using evidence outside of the game..

Man. If you guys want to continue to argue about ToS policy on a thread demonstrating the worst example to counter point the dangers of the policy.

AND just throw in any argument trying to relate this and expect SE to understand your issue when pages of it make it even more confusing... good luck.

Better question, why didn't he report it instead?

Possibly if the streamer wants to report them. But the BLM wasn't streaming and thus not making whatever the issue was very very public and open to random man-baby attack. If he deserves a ban for what was said then let the GM decide that too.

In my case, it was more a lack of understanding of how RMT is being investigated, I looked into it more properly after getting your reply to try and better educate myself.

I still do believe that Twitch should not be allowed as evidence for in-game violations unless they also occur in-game as it's a third-party source, but clearly SE disagrees with that and it's their ship to run.

I support no tolerance for twitch cancer. Bravo SE.
