If this "inconsistency" is what makes people being punished for their very bad behavior, I welcome it.

The "they punished A but not B" argument is silly from the start. If a robber didn't got caught, it doesn't give you license for robbing too and then complain if you got caught and punished.

I think the moral of the story is "Don't let a jerk provoke you into being a bigger jerk so they can report you".

While your point is good I think, I think you got it abit wrong. The person wasn't banned for any meter he had, not at all. THe meter has no part to play in this at all. The only thing the meter should be brought up on is the fact the player's name wasn't blocked out. This isn't about a dps meter. This is about being named and shamed on a website that is showing his info to a very large group of people. This and only this is the reason why said streamer was banned. Lets not bring the meter into this as the meter talk is getting people off track majorly.

I'm actually confused by what people are saying is inconsistent though.

    1. The person punished was a verified streamer. It isn't some rando they found berating someone with the names visible.

    2. They don't ban RMT on videos. Uhh didn't you guys remember that there were several Poser accounts trying to sell Gill using FFXIV's name?

    3. They haven't banned before (that you know of)./This is the first ban they've done regarding off site behavior - See 1. and 2.

    4. I've seen some guy selling RMT in PF. Report them? Please remember RMT means REAL MONEY TRANSACTIONS. Some guy selling gil clears for Ultimate actually doesn't fall in this category unless you are living in a real life economy that Gil is actual currency.

So at this time, it's basically not a slippery slope argument. If you're monetizing off FFXIV, take some care for how you engage your players. Also players, that goes for those who feel in their right to harass a host. You hate Mr Happy, Xenos Athars that's great, don't do it in stream or with a verified account. I think SE has to feel to take things more seriously, I mean a guy in their country blew up an animation studio because...reasons. They were already in a rough position with people screaming about dataminers and accusing and harassing people who first cleared The Ultimate Alexander.

(should note, not saying I disagree or was presenting an argument against you - just supporting it).

Still say that SE wouldnt have done anything to Arthars if he had blurred out the name and kept things that could point out that player vague. It only became a huge issue because Arthars made such a big deal out of naming the person he was pissed at. To me, it's very clear that his intent was to cause reputation damage and make that guys life in game harder by Arthars riling up his viewership. Even if the guy was being an ass, this is clearly a situation of Arthars using his base to affect someone else in game. Only reason he didnt say anything in game is cause he knew perfectly well that doing so would get him in trouble, so he tried to be clever and do it off platform. And since hes a bigger streamer, Im not gonna give him the benefit of the doubt that "He didnt know better." I know streamers cant control the actions of their viewership, but lets not be stupid and suggest that him making such a huge point of naming and pointing out the players name that he wasnt hoping his base wouldnt respond by harassing/blackballing that player. There's a huge difference between "Mr. Biggles annoys me." and being done with it and saying "Mr. Biggles annoys me so much. This Mr Biggles. So annoying. JUST SO YOU ALL KNOW, ITS MR. BIGGLES THAT ANNOYS ME. RIGHT HERE. ON THIS SERVER. MR BIGGLES. HES ANNOYING.But dont totally go after him. But in case anyone was wondering, Again, its Mr Biggles of Sarg. That guy.*wink wink nudge nudge*"

Point is, if your actions on another platform will (within plausibility) affect another player in game, then you should be punished. And people should stop with the ridiculous "What ifs." Youre not gonna get banned for a bit of one off anger at another player in a short tweet, or venting a little bit in a vague manner. Youre gonna get slapped with a ban if you make it a point to go after another player and directly/indirectly encourage others to do the same.

Where does that stop, though? If I post a comment in an obscure board related to FFXIV, when is the GM (and I'm not gonna do the joke I originally intended - something along the lines of "gesta-") police coming for me? They said time and time again that only InGame sources are reliable and now what? Guess it was a flat out lie all this time. Nice one. Way to go for players to trust anything the company has ever said and will ever say.

This is ridiculous. Did you link the message board and your profile for the obscure board in your lodestone to prove its you?

The dude had a link to HIS twitch on HIS character page on the lodestone. If they need proof it was actually him, well, he gave them the link.

Also, the whole where does it stop thing is just... Insane...

Like, they aren't coming to your house and removing your computer...

This is why we can't take you people seriously, you are literally comparing a GM temp banning a guy for being completely out of line on twitch, to police rounding up innocents and sending them off to gods know where for torture and death.

You should honestly be ashamed of yourself.

People pretty much never sell clears for gil with how easily it's obtained.

The reason they conduct transactions outside of the game is specifically because real money is involved, though it's unlikely SE can actually do anything about them because they won't leave any information on Discord that proves without doubt that the contact is the same person with the ad listed in PF and they won't reveal who the ones doing the clears are until a transaction is actually made.

It should stop now with these silly and offensive extremes please.
Not sure why you people are doing this lately. Please stop.
    Those jokes aren't funny.
