imo whether it be by name or by insult, if you default to racist, sexist or homophobic slurs, the only one who should feel foolish is yourself. If you want to be edgy or insult someone, at least put an ounce of creativity into it. With everything you could mock, choosing race, sexuality or gender is just so Boomer it hurts.

When it comes to names, I will agree I like the ones that are clever, that only a few people will get, and even then you can't prove it actually is dirty or "offensive". GM's usually can't touch those either.

Ive seen much worse names than SturmChurro, do all the time.

The thing about your name is that while it’s silly, it’s unique as well, and not something boring like “XYZ (take your pick at a first name) Whisperwind” or “XYZ (same here) Skylord”, that’s the only two that come to my mind but any last name that has a arbitrary concept followed by a person, place, or thing in the same name are so boooooooooring. They’re not memorable at all.

Well, if you are talking to me you have a high chance of me forgetting your name. I mean this seriously too, I forget everyone's names. So whether they are memorable, or not I won't remember them!

I like my name. Probably not the most creative, but neat none the less. On the topic of offensive names ... If you are "offended" by it, ignore them or report them and be on your way. Going to forums or complaining by other means doesn't accomplish anything but increase your frustration. This is a game, no need to add stress where it isn't needed.

People are going to make moral judgements based on their moral outlook, and be discriminatory based on what falls outside of that moral outlook. For instance, if someone were to call me "racist", "sexist", or "homophobic" as has been repeated a few times in this thread, it would probably mean nothing to me, as my worldview most likely does not align with people who usually use those terms. In fact, I watched as "discrimination" became some kind of moral absolute value to the generations younger than myself. I hold no such absolute notions, and this very thread illustrates how discrimination by itself makes no sense as an absolute value. It is impossible to be completely indiscriminate about everything. More than any other generations though, I think today's generation and the past generation, in a sense, speak completely different languages. So strange how we can do that using the same words.

I myself find the half naked people running around the game and sexual names they make for their characters very offensive. Clearly those people do not and might even call me "prude" or some such as if it would disparage me somehow when clearly I consider their version of "prude" to be a value. I don't easily call anyone disparaging names, though, so I wouldn't be doing the same necessarily. I've never understood why anyone would treat someone else like they didn't matter, even if their behavior could be better. Nor am I reporting anybody, especially when the game itself is what lets them run around half-naked and makes half-naked NPCs. That is the game's fault, and I can put up or leave.

I've never reported anyone for a name. There's a degree of subjectivity involved but it's a pretty safe assumption anything I would consider offensive has already been, by multiple people. Also, I don't care that much. Occasionally a name makes me think to myself, why on earth would anyone enjoy being referred to as THAT. But that's all.

I like Lalafells named after snack foods because it reminds me of my FFXI days, references to books I've read or movies, and anything that simply sounds nice to me.
