So, so far it seems the only reason people are going to Ul'dah is beacause it wheir people are going. I'm on Besaid and from what i have gathered it seems that all servers are the same way. When they have Ishgard open up that will become the main hub. If Ishgard doesn't support Retainers then Ul'dah will be the main market place. If Ishgard does have retainer support then it will become the main place to buy and sell. I could see the three main cities sharing an Auction house to sell lower lvl gear and weapons.. If they don't do that then the three cities will only be good for Guild/Craft Leves.

When they have Juno open up that will become the main hub. If Juno doesn't support Retainers then San d'oria will be the main market place. If Juno does have retainer support then it will become the main place to buy and sell. I could see the three main cities sharing an Auction house to sell lower lvl gear and weapons.. Kinda how XI was when they introduced Jueno, and later to the endgame scene...White Gate.
You could still see folks in the starter cities, and they did have their own separate economies...but the capital is where its at!
