Either we allow it on main characters too or we don't get it at all. This is the sort of mode you have to go all in for it to really mean anything.

If I die, forgive me. I used to be a Dragoon.
Features we deserve according to who? Also like, you proved my point, not even 5 minutes after my post there was already a reply from you. You have way too much time to think on these features the community "deserves".
Yeah, and two minutes ago as of the time of this post you made a statement on your Twitter account ranting about this very forum. So I think it's pretty clear you're not willing to engage in a good faith debate!
Ok I think Perma-death is a dumb idea in games.
But somehow, I actually like this one. Because it would mean people would need to actually be trying and paying attention in a raid.
At the same time...is there a safety net or some leeway for those that get Disconnected? Because as great as this sounds, it can also go against you.
there is content with permadeath. its called BA though there is a way to res it is extremely limited. its either 70% chance to res or a spell that kills you to res another. i can assure you if you missed it was hellah fun. it wasnt extreme difficulty but every ability oneshotted so you had to be extra carefull . the peak ofc being the final boss ozma an extreme version of it which you could wipe 52 peeps for one mistake. can try to get into it but it requires a discord server and a whole lot of luck. also you need to get through eureka.
I guess I have a new fan! Don't forget to drop a followI'll leave you now to your fantasies o/
I played a game with something like this I think. Maybe Diablo 3? I might be wrong, it's been a while since I've played whatever game it was.
Something like what you describe might be kind of fun depending on how it was implemented, though as multiple people have mentioned losing a character due to lag would be horrible. Just imagining being on a permadeath character and suddenly noticing that no one besides me is casting or moving gives me chills lol.
I agree that the chances of seeing this added to ffxiv are slim, but it's a cool idea!
That sounds like a fun duty finder setting!

Somehow in the 12yrs I played that game, I leveled down only once. I can't say that for an old friend I had though. He helped a WHM out with AF in Fei'Yin and leveled down 4 times from 75. This also reminds me of the Raise III era and it costing 3-4mil, so much that many WHMs refused to buy it nor help with the BCNM you get it from. Forgot what SE did to take care of that though..I guess this is why FFXI had exp LOSS on death as a near enough equivelant penalty to permadeath so that death was not quite so cheap but still wasn't a huge kick in the gut if you were unlucky.
Unfortunately though, it just made it annoying (even FFXI doesn't have EXP loss anymore for under level 50 and the amount you now lose is so much less than it used to be). And permadeath might provide an added element of challenge, but personally I think it's too much, especially with a casual-orientated game like FFXIV is.
