    There would be risk, though. I stated in my post that for the game mode damage would be increased to make combat more of a threat across the board. Like in POTD/HOH it should be AoE's that are avoidable that deal a significant amount of damage, though auto-attack damage should be increased by a reasonable amount too.

    That sounds like a fun duty finder setting!

    I mean, it's not my thing, but whatever floats one's boat I guess.

    I guess this is why FFXI had exp LOSS on death as a near enough equivelant penalty to permadeath so that death was not quite so cheap but still wasn't a huge kick in the gut if you were unlucky.

    Unfortunately though, it just made it annoying (even FFXI doesn't have EXP loss anymore for under level 50 and the amount you now lose is so much less than it used to be). And permadeath might provide an added element of challenge, but personally I think it's too much, especially with a casual-orientated game like FFXIV is.

    Somehow in the 12yrs I played that game, I leveled down only once. I can't say that for an old friend I had though. He helped a WHM out with AF in Fei'Yin and leveled down 4 times from 75. This also reminds me of the Raise III era and it costing 3-4mil, so much that many WHMs refused to buy it nor help with the BCNM you get it from. Forgot what SE did to take care of that though..

    I like the idea, but I can't imagine losing a character because of reason: lag. ;__;
    To make it fair would mean to not have processes happen server-side, but in an mmo eh it's sort of inherent.

    I kind've like the idea since it reminds me of an old mmo I had originally started in. You created an "ultimate" character, and if you died without some form of protection or didn't get a raise within the next 3 minutes after death, that character was deleted. The benefits were that you obtained skills for the class you played that others don't have and you gained bonus stat points per level. This of course made the game very pay to win if you pvp'd and kept up your protections and whatnot. On the other side of this though.... I'd enjoy a system where if you made an ultimate character that is deleted when death occurs... You could treat it similarly to how PoTD is treated. Where you level and do content as far as you can. The more content you do, the higher your points, and of course that would put at risk doing content like hunt marks or world bosses.

    Idk, I can't see much in terms of how you could make it beneficial but I would definitely enjoy an option just for the sake of genuinely having to care about your character and not wanting to die. I like the concept but I can't imagine the implementation.... And this may be the sadist in me, but we don't have any form of "duel" function in game so, I can't kill your character :C

    Doesn't that make the Main Story unplayble because it basically contradicts the whole Warrior of Light scenario? To be honest, FFXIV's approach to why we don't "really die" is one of the better in video game history.

    Also, Tani Shirai is right. The risk will most likely turn players into sitting ducks as they dare less to do more dangerous things.

    If your last legacy character dies your account should lose legacy status too
