It is still not content that I enjoy. And I'm upset that this is the way we are getting our relic gear. It's almost as bad a Eureka. (which is something that I never had time for or enjoyed. If I wanted to play ff11 I would just go play ff11)
Uh... our relic has nothing at all to do with the Ishgard Restoration or crafting/gathering at all. Now the Crafter/Gatherer relic is tied to it, but the battle relic will be done in the ruins of the Bojza Citadel. It will be battle content and from the slides it sounds like it will be done with a lot of solo steps.

I quit playing FF11 around 2004. Eureka was ... very much like its state, back then.

Hey that's not true at all, Eureka was nothing like FF11. FF11 was fun.

Low-hanging fruit jokes aside, I actually am old enough to have played the classic MMOs like EverQuest and FFXI and have vivid memories of them. The main difference to me and what made Eureka intolerable to me is that the gameplay of those old games was much, much slower and there weren't complex rotations to keep track of. Eureka had the grind but with modern MMO class design, which is why I didn't like it.

I think there are a few problems with dungeons IMO:

    1. If there are multiple branching paths, most players in DF groups will take the shortest route possible. As a result, they forego rewards of side treasure coffer gear, gil, and/or exp that were skipped. This usually leads to faster clears for roulette purposes.

    2. If the dungeon has only one single path to clear, there will always be opportunities to see the treasure coffer for gear, gain the exp from enemies more often, and get the gil drops from enemies that apply. Of course this has a higher chance of burning out people if they do dungeons too often as there isn't much variety in dungeon layout.

Either way, it's always trash -> boss -> trash -> boss -> trash -> boss in dungeon order. [Barring a few exceptions]

For endgame content, dungeons aren't the only ways to get endgame Tomestones. There are PVP, roulettes, hunts, cross-server hunt trains, beast tribe daily quests, end game trials, normal/24 man raids, etc. You just need to take the initiative to participate in them if constant dungeon running burned you out and/or it is not your thing to do.

I think for someone who's never played FFXI, jumping into it wont grant them the experience we veterans had to endure because the 75 era is long gone. 99 era, none of that annoying stuff exists now, because exping is no longer an 'event'. No 8-10hr parties, no 2-3 month LFG DDs, etc, and you can just use trust for nearly all the old 75 era content.

Their comment on wanting to spend resources elsewhere is interesting, I'm fine with less dungeons if it means big content that "I like". Which is a bit of a scary predicament to be in I suppose, but lets say they were like 1 less dungeon for a year but we give you chocobo beast tribe, paradise, and hot and cold or like personal airships (akin to WoW garrison, but for all- so sort of a home solution for those who don't have one and more of a mobile battle base for those who do)... something like that would have me like "yeah okay, go ahead". But if they were "one less dungeon so we can add savage pf only blue mage" and I'd be like "give me my dungeon back, that's not worth it" lol.

Of course sometimes what's added wont be for me, I get that, but if one of these big / different things can cycle around to something I like I can be fine with a dungeon loss as it would mean other neat new content- and if it never cycles around to me (or they don't make other new content with the resources gained) then I guess that's a bit of a loss.

that extra dungeon doesn't serve much purpose ,releasing 2 dungeons that have 95% of the same loot, the same 1-2 big pull of trash pack and 3 bosses,if they are not gonna make them different not just in aesthetic then there really isnt any point to the one extra dungeon and the effort making said dungeon can be used else where.

PVP is a chaotic bore that I only do for the XP & glamours.

I do Normal raids for the story, and then never again, except through roulettes. Same with Normal trials.

So, yeah, from my vantage point if they want to strip away dungeons I'm going to be looking for something else to fill the void, and I don't think that anything I've heard yet is going to qualify, unless the new Eureka somehow isn't terrible, and is viable for solo players.
Ex trials like Ramuh being difficult/frustrating worries me for you... Ramuh you could unsync and solo, all of the ARR trials tbh. If you're pugging Ramuh EX and unync'ing, just tell people not to put dots on it and kill the adds first, then continue.... PVP is only chaotic if you don't understand what's happening or take the time to learn how to strategize. Tbh, reading through the whole post, it doesn't sound like you really enjoy much of FFXIV as a whole... it might just not be the game for you. They're right, we already have plenty of dungeons and removing 1 less dungeon per patch isn't going to solve your issue with the game if dungeons are the only form of acceptable content you can manage to do or enjoy.

I think they took a similar approach in Stormblood in regards to content creation. In my opinion it didn't pan out too well, but I didn't like Eureka overall, and that is probably where the extra resources went.

Thankfully they seemed to have learned from a few of the mistakes they made in Pagos and let people have their Fate train in Pyros (and giving it back to Pagos later). Still though, it wasn't a particularly interesting piece of content. Never did get into BA, but that was poorly designed from the get-go and it wasn't worth my time. I'm hoping that they continued to learn from Eureka as far as what not to do going forward and channeled that into what's apparently coming.

Until I can see what's what I will remain skeptical, but I do hope they'll surprise us with something that's actually interesting, and not just related to the relics. This game needs...something new. Multiple somethings. I just can't really put it into words because I really don't know. What I do know is that the current content schedule is not sustainable in the long term, but that's just my opinion. Either way I doubt it would ever be worse than WoW is right now, so that is a small comfort. WoW's...not in a good place. I'd honestly say that it's worse than their old worst expansion. Even during WoD I remained subbed a good while. If nothing else, FF XIV is consistent, and I love that. I would just love to be surprised every now and then.

No risk, no reward. Unfortunately SE prefers to play it safe all the time. That will work against them as the game gets older, as will their lack of communication in some areas (you know, like here).

I'd like to know your standard point then, from where we're getting "less". I've never seen FFXIV so diversifying itself in term of in game content.
Content you're not intersested in =/= not less content.

I'll never understand how over the year people can still say that. Check previous expansion again.
That's not even accouting the fact that we have more class to play at a higher level, so other gameplay experience, more crafting recipes, more housing possibilies.

    Anyway...
