    Can't download game, download stalls

So I have two ffxiv clients installed, one for myself which is the SE standalone version, and the other is the steam version which my bf has to use while he's visiting me.

When he last used it in October it worked just fine, but today (13/12) when he tried to log in and download the latest patch, it started at about 8mb/s download, but after about 5 minutes it slowly starts to drop before eventually stalling and not getting any further.

After a couple of tries of this, we uninstalled the steam version of the game and intended to install it from fresh to hopefully fix it, but we just encountered the same issue again.

We have tried this in both the old launcher and the new style launcher as well as trying to download with a VPN on, but no luck.

We have of course tried restarting the computer, and we have also tried Windows Firewall as well to no avail.

If anyone can help us figure out this issue, or even just tell us what's going wrong I would be much appreciative!

Good afternoon and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

Are you still experiencing this issue?

Are you experiencing this same issue while using the non-Steam launcher?

You may want to try a clean boot. Simply open the task manager and select the 'Start up' tab. Disable everything here and restart the PC. This will make sure that no background processes are interfering with the game.

We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy the exciting world of Final Fantasy XIV!

EDIT: We never managed to figure out our issue in the end, but we fixed it but copying the game files from his computer and replacing the files I had, basically manually patching the game files so it didn't need to update.

    Hi Einmimiria!

Sorry for the late reply, I hadn't had a chance to try that out until now.

TL;DR, we still has the same issue.

We started out by doing as you said, I disabled everything that starts up automatically in the Startup tab. Restarted, logged into Steam and opened FFXIV. First the white update window came up has there has been another patch since my last message, then the typical launcher window comes up. My BF logs in as usual, but before the download can start, it gives us an error message that says "There's not enough space on your C Drive, there needs to be 11xxmb of free space." Which is odd, because I had installed the client onto my E drive, as my C drive is my boot drive and E is my hdd, where the game was installed before this issue started. So, I go and make sure there's enough space for the launcher, and log in again. This time it doesn't give me that error, and proceeds to start downloading 49k mb worth of data. (I assume that 1100mb odd is some temp files the client needs in order to download the other files? Annoying that it defaults to C though)

Anyway, so it starts off fine, at about 7mb/s, which is pretty typical of my internet. This lasts about, 5 minutes? Probably not even that. But just like last time, it slows down bit by bit, before eventually getting back to 0mb/s and stalling. This time it got to 921.00MB/49175.31MB exactly before the dl speed started to drop. Even while it's dropping, it doesn't even attempt to download past 921.00mb. Funnily enough, last time, the estimated time skyrocketed, but this time, it says "Time remaining: approximately 21 minutes" which at 0mb/s, would be a miracle.

Any help with this issue would be appreciated! This issue is absolutely baffling us and I'm not sure what else we can do.
