I lived in France and Switzerland and never heard about those candies !Europe should get their own promo if this doesn’t work for them. Are butterfingers even available overseas? Or in Canada? I can never remember which candies are where since a lot of them are owned by the same three or so global companies.
So yeah, about that black chocobo for EU.
I can't speak for all of Europe, but I can tell you that in Ireland, the UK and France most American candy isn't available unless you go to a massive place like a large Tesco that has an American food aisle or a shop that specifically sells imported American food. And not every town has those options available. You generally only find them in bigger cities. Also the pandemic means some of the American food shops are closed. From my experience in France it's even harder to find American food sold locally than in Ireland and the UK and it's already not super common there. You can order them online but they tend to be very pricey and can take long to be delivered depending on where you are.
I have only seen two types of Hershey's chocolate bars, and some Reese's peanut butter treats in ordinary shops. I have never seen Butterfingers for sale outside of an American import shop. The first time I ever saw Butterfingers was when a housemate got some candy sent to them by American relatives. That was over a decade ago and still most people where I'm from don't know what they are.
The only guaranteed overlap of chocolate available across Europe is with gigantic brands like Mars, Nestlé and Kinder. Every part of Europe has their own selection of chocolate that you would have a very hard time finding elsewhere. My boyfriend is from Eastern Europe and through him I tried a lot of chocolate bars commonly found there that you would never find in Western Europe. The only way for SE to have a chocolate bar promo that would be easily accessible by all of Europe would be with an enormous global name like Kit-Kat.
Probably easier to have a promo like time in Europe where we had to purchase FF related items online, like time cards.
Aaah ok. I see. Yeah I knew some candy like Kit-Kat was available globally, just wasn’t sure the extent of it. But it looks like that wouldn’t matter either way, as only people in the states can redeem their receipts. :/
They definitely need to make this available for Europe. It’s wild that you guys never got the black chocobo either. I’m sure it’s a bit more complicated to do these things for EU because of all the different countries (and as you noted- availability of things varying wildly from place to place) but they’ve done it before...hopefully they find a way to do it again. Maybe with Kit-Kat?
That's the problem, they have to take into considration of different laws and stuff, rather than USA there it just one country vs 45 states (or 27 if we just count EU members).
I was kind of hoping the lack of EU Black Fat Chocobo would be brought up in the Q&A at fan fest event sometime. I don't think it was and I don't think we'll ever get answers for why specifically Square Enix hasn't done one for us in the EU like the OFC and Cumulus mount campaigns. Like we know those didn't go well like the US and JP ones for them and dealing with EU countries is harder due to laws and finding a business that work for all of the EU. I don't want to be scarred again but I think the Chocoporkur event could come to the EU, the fact they have made them region-free has me concerned though.
Now you can "buy" chocoporkur mounts through other places like eBay (which I believe is against the rules for the campaign), I have been seeing them go for like £30/€35 on ebay (or for way more extortionate prices which you have to consider VAT on, haven't bought one mind you, I have seen people with it more now on EU servers and they either have gotten an US friend to get them the code or brought them from said merchant sites) I have actually been seeing people selling codes from other candy bars like Crunch which is a Nestle product. So this gives me hope that maybe they can make a deal with Nestle in Europe to work this promo for EU countries. Butterfingers are also Ferroro (bought by them from Nestle in 2018) so it is possible for them to do it too/instead since they own things like Nutella/Kinder/TicTacs and many other chocolate/sweet brands. I just hope we can at least get another EU promo and/or maybe have the Black Fat Chocobo in an EU campaign too
Our prayer's have been answered!
