So unless I missed something I went from 1-80 as a new player without unlocking a majority of the things in Mor Dhana and ignoring most of the stuff on the Guild guys give you.

Literally STILL have not figured out how to unlock pvp in this game. Also Alliance raids I realized even existed after I saw the Nier Automata music thing on Youtube.

Some things that seem easy for veteran players make no sense if you have played other MMO's. In other MMO's you do not need to do Classic, 2nd expansion or even 3rd expansion content to open up the content at end game in the latest expansion.

What is worse there is literally nothing that tells you "oh hey btw you have not unlocked pvp so go talk to this guy"!. The Traveling minstrel guy only makes sense if you bothered to click on him in Mor Dhana so I ignored this guy for quite a while until I realized he opened a ton of stuff.

Anything that can be added to the game that looks at your end game things you have unlocked and gives you a list of things you literally skipped because they were not MSQ related and only looked related to prior expansions but you are forced to do to play Shadowbringers.

One of the earliest tutorials covers the difference in quest giver icons.

If you see a Blue Q with a + in it, that will either unlock something or lead to something that will unlock content (or it's Hildebrand). That's why it's marked with an icon that stands out. Also, in the little guide window, those quests are sorted to the top of the list.

What old content are you "forced to do" to play Shadowbringers?

The Crystal Tower raids are highly recommended for full plot comprehension, and Shadowbringers was written with the intent that you had done them already, but the script simply adjusts itself if you haven't.

If you have blue quest bubbles on the map anywhere, do them. They unlock everything. It's pretty easy to figure out if you zone into an area if quests are important.

As others have said - You get a tutorial pretty early on...Pretty sure its the one right after how to move.

Gold ! Marks are Side quests.
Gold ! Marks with decorations around the border is a main quest, made to look like a meteor.
Gold "Recycle" Icons are daily, or otherwise repeatable quests.
Blue ! Marks with a + icon, with gold borders are quests that either unlock new content, jobs, or activities, or are part of a quest chain that leads to such.

Just because you've played other MMOs before, doesnt mean you should ignore the tutorials.

If you're talking about unlocking something specific then yea i suppose you have a point, you'd have to look up on the wiki for that...But that sounds like just as much of a headache to implement that. Just pick up all the blue quests you see, and you'll unlock all the features and content. FF14 is a heavily story based game, and so quests are usually used to give you and your character a reason to participate in said things. For example, you naturally wouldnt be able to use the hair dresser without having met him first...So thats what a quest is for. Side dungeon? Here is a quest giving you a reason as to why you should go do it, story wise. This isnt 2005 anymore, narrative, no matter how insignificant, is important these days.

Did you never look at all of the locked roulettes or tabbed through the duty finder tabs and go huh I wonder what those are? Or How do I unlock these? I never noticed if tabs aren't there if you haven't unlocked them or if they're there but with them being empty/having a locked boxes.

I don't know about you but when I play a new game and I don't know how to unlock something or want to find out what I should unlock...I just google. I don't go to the forums and complain that "after all these levels I still don't know how to unlock pvp" when it is literally a one minute google search away.
