    The SCH Fairy

    Heya

I recently started leveling up my SCH again and while being 78 by now, I today managed to get the first SBH dungeon for roulette and.. and.

    The Situation:
Tank is at 50%, I'm at 98% and who decides my fairy to heal first? Yes, me. Like, literally me. Is that intended? Or is it a bug? Because I don't remember the fairy being that.. well, stupid?

The other thing is, that my fairy seems pretty, pretty weak with her Embrace. I know it isn't top score generally, but it's more like a Sneeze than a Breeze lately, that I wonder why she's even trying.

Am I missing something? Because I'm pretty confused about it :v

From what I understand the fairy’s AI will prioritise the summoner (Scholar in this case lol) above all else, maybe because no summoner means no fairy. After the summoner is healed it then moves on to whoever has the lowest HP % (don’t remember if she distinguishes between tank and dps). While you can generally predict who she’s going to heal next and adjust in preparation, she can be a little unreliable at times if left to her own devices, particularly in cases where everyone is taking damage.

While I’m sure you’re aware, for situations like this I’d recommend Fey Union. That way you can guarantee the fairy will only be healing the target you want it to, and the healing it provides is higher than standard Embrace.
In terms of strength, it’s not that the fairy is weak but that it has to have a limiter so we don’t end up in situations like previous expansions where your fairy can literally do all of the healing and you can just afk/follow someone with no real repercussions unless something goes very badly wrong.

Don’t forget as well, once you hit level 80 there’s quite a bit of a ‘jump’ on how much both you and the fairy heal, especially once you hit higher item levels. Combine that with the ability to Summon Seraph at level 80, and by then you’ll start to see how it fits in to the Scholar job.

Lastly, be aware that you’re healing with the fairy; the fairy isn’t doing your healing for you. Finding opportunities to Lustrate / Indomitability/ Excogitation etc should always take priority before ‘leave it to the fairy’, and then once you can do that you can then start to say ‘ok, I’ll let the fairy deal with this attack’ and start to plan our Energy Drain usage for personal damage. Not that I’m suggesting you’re trying to make the fairy do everything, just that part of being a Scholar is understanding that the fairy acts as supplementary to what you do, rather than as a replacement.

I mean, I understand that people argue that the fairy is just a regen like any other healer has. But how many regens do we have that can be placed on a fixed spot for the duration of the entire battle, generate additional regens on top of Embrace spam, generate direct AoE heals, increase the party’s healing potency and reduce damage taken, and temporarily turn both its aoe and single target healing spells into shields. Oh, and not a single one of these features costs the Scholar an actual GCD.

The fairy can definitely seem weak when looking purely at potency values, but once you consider the amount of advantages it can bring Scholar that other healers don’t have, it’ll start to make sense why it feels weak. Especially once you hit level 80 and start getting higher ilvls / Seraph

Hopefully some of this helps, I’m an average Scholar at best so I’m not suggesting to take this advice as gospel. It’s just things I like to keep in mind for dealing with unexpected situations as a Scholar in a way that makes good use of the fairy

With your description we cant say much, maybe your 98% hp was equal or less than the 50% of your tank's hp since the fairy gives priority to the one with the less ammount of remaining hp and not the percentage of it, it also could be the case that the tank was outside the reach of embrace in which case obviously the fairy wont heal them, and yeah, embrace is a very weak heal too weak if you ask some people and it got nerfed in shb, my personal advice is to not rely on embrace, especially in high level content, use the fairy cooldowns, seraph and fey union and dont be afraid to use dissipation when those are gone.

I believe Fairy AI runs a proximity check so make sure its closest to the tank.
