Could use help in picking Drk, Gnb, or Pld.

Hiya, so I'm a bit of a dabbler in tanking and having accepted that I don't need to be a savage level raider to tank (mainly cause I've been scared out of my wits to tank savage content and am not a super hardcore player), I'm wanting to work on getting back into being a tank once more. I have Drk at 80 and am currently working on Gnb and Pld, but for the life of me, can't decide on which to be my primary tank. Drk has been my go to since I used to love 2h swords, but have started to appreciate 1h swords as well, also Salted Earth is kind of annoying to use on controller. I like Gnb and its abilities speak to the tech nerd in me since I love tech based fighters (e.g. along the lines of Mega Man X and Zero). Paladin is well... Paladin, I have the invisible shield so I can hide it and enjoy the job more in that regard, but I've never been one for the "goody goody" job with pure ight and all that.

What do y'all think and what would be a good tank to play for now?

if DRK was you go to tank in the past expansions then i recomend you give it a try to GNB first since they have a gameplay that will remember old glory days of DRK, he is fast, busy and pretty fun to play, PLD get more complex in his line this expansion you could give it a try too, don't look at numbers since all of them are pretty similar on terms of balance, i recomend you level up all of them with time when you are bored and get you own thouthgs and if at the end you like being lazy and don't work much for the job just stay with war-knight i mean DRK.

Right now all the tanks are more or less viable for all content in the game. Pick the one you enjoy the most...Or, do what i do, and pick two as your "main" and play the other two on the side, be an omnitank! Everything but the weapons are shared, after all.

But you know, there are several mechanics in savage raids that you as a tank have to follow otherwise you will end up wiping the party?
Its not any less stressful than playing a dps, also you still have to be with your opener and rotation to the point but for very little gain which determine your performanceu, which also makes your single mistakes a lot more visible, for example simple not aligned well IR(the main big ability) on warrior could push your from violet to blue/green, and because of it you will be seen a inferior tank in comparison to others if you dont know everything about the fight and keep doing those single mistakes. I might be wrong, but doing perfect rotation and doing tanking stuff on top of it without killing the team while also knowing the raid from tip to toe is a bit harder.

Dont expect it will be easier and parties are willing to be more accepting, because they dont, nobody accept a bad tank the threshold between bad and good tank is pretty high and basically determines if the party wipes or not.

Nedkel, I think you may have misunderstood what I was saying about Savage. As a whole, I've never done savage content when it is current, so I have no experience in savage raiding. In general I take a bit longer learning mechanics than others do and do have issues with focusing so there are times where I'll zone out and mess up a mechanic and being yelled at for something I can't really control just ends up having me go into mental shutdown and become even worse. I'm not saying tanking is easier or harder than dpsing or that there is less to know, just that I have no savage experience and everything told to me about savage from my FC friends makes me not wanting to do it since again, I do have moments where I zone out that may not be good for savage raiding.

As for tanking, while I'm not pro, super expert tank, I have slowly gotten better at it over the years and aside from the rare mistake, do my part well enough in keeping aggro and easing the burden on healers healing me. Again, no expert since I've only tanked for the end of SB and a good chuck of ShB.

A note about Salted Earth on controllers: you can set up macros to ease its use:

A target macro to drop it on the boss:
    /micon “Salted Earth”
    /ac “Salted Earth” <t>
    /ac “Salted Earth”

The second SE is there to allow you to manually place it still if there’s no selected target.

You can also have a <me> macro to use for those bosses like Shinryu and Leviathan that are super wide and don’t allow the target macro to function correctly:

    /micon “Salted Earth”
    /ac “Salted Earth” <me>

Only play DRK if you really want to hate yourself...

It sounds like you answered your own question. You don't like paladin because of the holy knight aesthetic, you like gunbreaker's tech theme and have started to appreciate one handed swords.

It all comes down to what playstlye works for you. If you want constant damage that isn't to insane but versitile go PLD. DRK is a burst tank that is the king of magical fights, and GNB is the class you go to if you want the speed of a DPS in tank form.
    WAR is just... bleeeeeeeeeeeeeh.
