Hi everyone. A few weeks ago I finished writing a monstrously long guide about anything to do with retainers but realized I forgot to post it here!

This guide is intended to cover everything, so some of you may find it excessively detailed, but that's fine.



I would like to entreat you all for some help! I'm looking for information on the current item level/gathering threshold a retainer has to be at to bring back rare items from quick ventures. I've been unable to locate this specific information myself, though I'm busy experimenting in game, unfortunately I haven't gotten any of my battle retainers up to 80 yet after a disastrous re-leveling spree. Do any of you know?

Also, if you notice anything wrong, weird, or just out of place, please let me know. I'd like this to be a very good community resource.

My MIN/BTN retainers with at least 2008 gathering skill and my FSH retainer at 1597 gathering skill get the "Your retainer's current gear should improve chances of finding rare items." message from quick ventures. I've removed some materia from them to see what point the message goes back to "with better gear".

At 423 ilvl, my DoW/DoM retainers are still getting the "With better gear, your retainer may be able to procure even rarer items." message. I'll work on increasing their ilvl tonight to see where it changes.

edit: reducing MIN/BTN to 1948 and FSH to 1567 was still getting improved chances so I'm still playing with those.

At 426, a DoW retainer received the "should improve chances" message so I'm guessing the cutoff is 425.

At 1537 gathering for FSH and 1891 for MIN/BTN, I'm still getting "should increase chances". Going to remove some more materia. I know when I just had HQ 430 equipped without melds on my gathering retainers, I was getting the "better gear will improve chances" message so it's just a matter of narrowing down how much extra gathering is needed.

edit: 1836 MIN/BTN and 1495 FSH still "should increase chances". Trying 1813/1826 for MIN/BTN next (feeling like 1825 might be the cutoff) and 1470 FSH.

new edit: still had "should increase chances" at 1813 MIN/BTN and 1470 FSH. Trying 1796 and 1445 now.

and another edit:still getting "should increase chances" at the last numbers. I need to stop for the day but I'll check the thread again tomorrow to see if you managed to get the numbers figured out. If not, I'll give it another try then.
