Limited Job #2: Beastmaster

Well, excuse me for posting. Didn't realize I would get so much negativity. Anyway for the moderators to just remove this topic then. Obviously, it is of no interest to anyone.

It's not negativity many of us just don't agree with the idea of limited jobs.

I personally think Limited Jobs are a very bad idea in it's current implementation, side content for jobs like the masked carnival sure, but being banned from essential partying tools (Duty Finder) and being below the current cap isn't exactly the best of ideas in my opinion.

The way I see limited jobs is a way to be more faithful to what makes the jobs unique by making them side content, without the usual balancing etc that comes with normal jobs, that otherwise might not get added or if they were added, would suffer more for being molded into a formula. For that reason I don't mind the way blue mage is handled and wouldn't mind seeing beastmaster implemented that way.

In fact, if they do add a second limited job they did name drop beastmaster as a potential limited job. I believe during the fanfest where blue mage was announced but would need to double check where. So I wouldn't be surprised at all if in say 5.4 or so we got beastmaster.

I don't object to limited jobs as a concept, just in the implementation we've seen. Blue Mage is fun for a week or so, but then you realize that getting the high-end spells requires being carried through content for a low chance at maybe getting a spell. It was promoted as being "too overpowered" for roulettes, but its DPS is subpar without those spells. Even if you make an exception for bringing strong spells into low-level content, it fails, because Red Mage and especially Dancer already do that (seriously, Standard Step murders everything in early dungeons, it's hilarious) without being hamstrung by the "limited" label. The only BLU content right now is the Masked Carnival, but unless you really need Grand Company seals, it too has little lasting value. The only other rewards are gil and Poetics, neither of which are hard to gain elsewhere.

So in short, I don't object to Beastmaster as a job. I don't object to the idea of a limited job. But I do object to how it currently works.

Luckily they stated that there's going to be a massive boost for the Blue Mage Log usage. I believe it was stated before that it would be "near guaranteed" if you complete the content using that. If it is indeed like that and you only need 1-2 runs for the spells, I see it as a good thing...but they'd need to make it so people want to keep running it, otherwise it'll be dead content within 2 weeks.

That'll be great for the people who can do it during the early rush. For anyone who comes later and wants, say, Shiva's spell that she only uses on Extreme, and needs to find a party to help them out.....well, good luck. And then we still run into the problem of not being able to do much with the job.

I can get behind limited jobs if they overhaul the system to acquire spells and pets. As of now it's so much of a chore. To be carried through everything.

I haven't seen anyone arguing here. What I have seen, however, is people voicing their opinions for or against the idea.

Knowing full well you will derail this into another "I hate BLU" thread? I'm sure voicing your opinions is all you wanted to do.

Not trying to derail it at all. I'm allowed to dislike something. I'm also not opposed to limited jobs as a concept. SE just doesn't make enough time or apply enough resources for BLU to make the concept worthwhile in my opinion. So yeah, I would love Beastmaster, even as a limited job...but only if they do it right, and not half baked and left out to dry like they've done with BLU so far. BLU has/had a lot of potential and it has, in my opinion, gone to waste. It could be so much more than it is and it makes me sad. But sure, I'm all about hating BLU.
