Sadly. There are 2 options in my area, and one of them is Verizon. Verizon itself has a stranglehold on multiple markets. Thankfully the other option isn't so bad. Most days anyway.Competition and government oversight really. They'll get to it when they get to it. Nothing we can do about it. ISP's in NA are a mess cuz of no regulation or competition, so they all have monopolies or duopolies in areas and the only ones who benefit are the companies. Us consumers are screwed. This is why you generally only have 1 or 2 options for internet in most areas in the US (Usually really only one, when they other is Centurylink). Big cities tend to have multiple options, but smaller cities and rural areas? Good luck.
