Allow some movement on NIN TCJ please.

Since the 5.1 patch, I fail TCJ more often than before. It triggers the cooldown, but I never see the box appear on the ground. Either it's bugged, or it's become much more sensitive to movement, and I'm accidentally hitting a movement key after casting it.

    How about:
Allow movement within the box, and fail the TCJ only if you move out of it. This would avoid accidental cancels, and might allow limited dodging of AOE's as well.

Right after 5.1 I noticed I accidentally cancel TCJ alot by accidentally turning with right mouse click or when my ping is high it'll cancel when I cast it the moment I stop moving.

Unfortunately, TCJ seems to be one of those skills that the Devs are really married to the design of sticking you to the ground on. People have asked for the ability to move with TCJ since Stormblood and when they reworked Ninja they went of their way to mention that it wasn't changing. I'd guess it'd take some pretty intense outcry to change it.

I see it most often when I run up to my target, stop, and immediately hit TCJ. It's almost as if the movement continues a bit after you release the movement key / button.

I wonder.. Macro TCJ to put in a delay?

    /macroicon "Ten Chi Jin"
    /wait 1
    /ac "Ten Chi Jin"

You may not even need the full 1 second wait if you can find some other do-nothing commands to waste a bit of time.
I'm going to try it as shown for a while to see if it reduces the fails.

Edit: I've found a way to introduce a shorter settling delay to let previous movement die out. I used a bunch of aggroline commands as delays before letting the TCJ go off.

    /macroicon "Ten Chi Jin"
    /aggroline on
    /aggroline off
    /aggroline on
    /aggroline off

Using Hakke Mujinsatsu for testing (short CD), and single-framing recorded video, the straight spell takes two frames to start showing the animation after a button click. With the delay macro, it's 9 frames. I used it during today's daily hunts, where I use TCJ to open whenever it's up, and I had no failures, even when I cast it immediately after running up and stopping. The delay is barely visible at normal speed.

Update: While running this macro, I did not have any TCJ cancels (where there was no ground pattern). Recently, I accidentally deleted the macro, and decided to try it that way, and started getting the failures again. I had NOT moved after TCJ, so it's something that's persisting before it. Putting the macro back.

Focused skills are a thing, just adapt. TCJ is pretty strong so think of TCJ as a "cast" whereby moving interrupts it like magic.

Its just buggy thats all, I think they might have hotfixed it already but my main issue was turning of the character will break it, even though i was only turning with my mouse.

I tried that. Turning doesn't cancel it for me. Also, using the aggroline commands to delay the TCJ a bit has completely eliminated the cancels for me.

I don't think a majority of people have this problem and making TCJ movable would defeat the purpose of TCJ mechanic and would essentially become akin to a 3rd ninjutsu charge.
I have noticed that spells can sometimes cancel when I'm casting/queueing too fast for the GCD when I'm on a casting class.
Regardless TCJ is considered a 'cast', so treat it as one. If you macro it then put reliable delays and stay still until it's done.

The only problem with it vs spells. If you move for a spell you oops but you can fix it by pressing the spell again. With tcj if you oops it then thats more potency lost than any black mage spell AND you cant recover it. Its lost. Gone. Poofers for another 120 seconds.

Id just like maybe a .2 second grace period on startup.

Yeah, it's weird. I used Shukichi to port back to a boss and used TCJ and it innately canceled despite me not moving. Doesn't happen all the time, but I'm thinking server ticks and movement beforehand can screw it up
