Squadrons and Trusts are designed to assist solo players, who, for whatever reason, do not want to group with others (although, if you asked the developers and they answered frankly, they would likely say it's their fix for long DPS queue times).

This attitude should have died a long, long time ago. There is something about a shared, persistent world that is appealing to solo players. On a personal level, I play this game with my chat box turned off (except for savage and ex where some rudimentary positioning needs to be communicated). I do that because, even in a great community like this, there are way too many idiots running around, spreading toxicity, and being jerks. Yet I still enjoy the game, the lore, and the genre. I have little to no interaction with people in Eorzea, but I play anyway.

MMORPG never has, and never will mean, forced socialization.
