    i doubt they gonna remove the timer, you only need to take a look at machinist and samurai, both has a cap of how many times you can do certain actions under a specific buff(the "perfect balance" skill of sam and machinist overheating i mean) and they still have a timer

    Again from the ffxiv reddit discord, here's a more indepth explanation to some things and some clarification.

    ・疾風迅雷周りが今のバトルコンテンツに噛み合ってない
    Greased Lightning currently does not feel right nor it matches the current battle content

    ・疾風迅雷を特性にしようと思っているがそうするとほぼ全てのアクションに手を入れる必要が出てくる
    Greased Lightning is currently underway to be converted as a trait but doing so will require almost every action to be adjusted for this purpose

    ・めちゃくちゃな工数がかかるので大改修はパッチ5.4を予定
    Doing so will require a lot of cost so the major revamp will be scheduled for patch 5.4

    ・踏鳴のリキャストを短縮
    As for now, Perfect Balance will have cooldowns adjusted

    ・演舞1の型の条件を無くす
    Form Shift will have Opo-opo form requirement removed

    I am not sure what the form shift of no more opo-opo means but I guess I have to wait and see.

    Edit: A disclaimer was added that it would be best to wait for the patch notes to see the full effects.

    To elaborate:

    5.3 what I think they're doing is some adjustments to make Greased Lightning less of a noose around the jobs neck, Form Shift will work like Umbral Soul and just refresh stacks, Perfect Balance will have a shorter cooldown for when jumps occur. This is meant to be a hold people over for the ultimate changes they'll make later.

    5.4 they're going to eliminate Greased Lightning's timer entirely (?) and pretty much every skill is going to be completely reworked. Form Shift, Perfect Balance, Anatman, and Tornado Kick will all do something different because there will be no timer to refresh.

    It's finally happening boys! For what I've heard in the mister happy streaming they plan to make greased lightning a trait and that will allow you to use tornado kick a lot of times during rotation. I feel that one step in the right direction <3

    In regards to form shift it seems like they are outright removing Opo-opo, which I can understand more often than not you start in Raptor or Coeurl to lead off with either Twin/Demo depending on the phase transition. I don't think I've ever form shifted into Opo-Opo so that will be a nice change to press it a few less times. I don't think form shift needs a rework, it still has a use to lead off with Twin or Demo, although I suppose there's an argument to be made that it would become a niche skill for minor increases after downtime since GL will be passive.

    If the devs are aware of how PB is currently used to spam leaden fist it's entirely possible they won't change it and it'll simply be MNK's inner release/delirium where we spam one button (2 in this case, DK and BS). And since GL wont need refreshing it will just be a DPS tool like it is now without the awkward refresh needed in between.

    TK and Anatman are the only 2 skills that will 100% see a change in some way. The rest still function without their relation to GL. Though I would personally like to see more meaningful changes to the other skills too.

    This is all interesting, but did they mention anything about the RNG aspect of the chakra? Will that be something we wait til 5.4 when the larger revamp happens?

    Maybe it will just be a flat SkS bump like magic and mend for mages? If this turns out to be true then I wonder about the Stances and how they will play into this? Just have level based SkS GL2 for 30-50 GL3 for 50-70 GL4 for 70+ I wonder. All speculation. Will be interesting to see the outcome.

    This is just an insignificant unimportant question, but I wonder where our lightning aura will go now? If there's no GL to gain then that'd mean there'd be no visual effect around us anymore. I realise this does not matter at all in the face of other bigger speculations though I just wanted to throw it out there as something that might happen.

    It may not be the chakra aura that we see from other Monks in the job questline, but I'll kinda miss it if it does end up going.
