I read it as simply splitting GL4 into four traits that you'll get as you level. I don't see how one is supposed to see something radically different based on the wording.
This is what monk has needed for a long time. When we break down the skills and see what GL is effecting this small change is HUGE.
-Perfect Balance - Gone later or reworked into delirium type skill?
-Form Shift- Gone later or reworked to just start openers as it no longer refreshes
-SSS- timer refresh gone and reworked (hopefully)
-Anatman- Gone or reworked to .... something useful
-Fists of Wind- Gone or reworked...again
-Tornado Kick- more then likely reworked to be used off of perfect balance imo
-Riddle of Earth- refresh effect removed and reworked back into damage reduction?
This amount of change leads me to believe, and now i'm only speculating, but GL will just be lumped into another resource that monk's can use much like chakra.
-Finish your combo and get a GL, get three pop tornado kick.
-Perfect Balance negates need for GL resource and adds inner release effect (crits) to feed chakra. (but then I bust my materia melds)
-SSS is changed into granting 1 GL
This is HUGE rework and I'm glad that they are looking into, but I would hope that they are taking more care into the changes. This is Monk we are talking about, and I have been let down since HW on hoping with every iteration it would be better. It wasn't.![]()
Here's to hoping!
Any concerns about the rework being released at the same time as the next raid tier?
A little concerning, but mostly because of their new philosophy of no job changes within the prelim patch notes which means most theorycrafting and optimal rotations will be worked out after savage has been downed by those players. This was similar in 4.05 as well when Savage came out as MNK saw changes to many skills there too and the optimal opener was changing every day for almost a week. Similar theorycrafting took a while during 4.2 and the TK rotation wasn't actually discovered straight away. I'm more or less certain the theorycrafters just gave in to the memers wanting to TK and actually found that it actually became optimal.
Overall, it will be annoying going into a new raid tier with such a huge change to GL but hopefully the adjustments made in 5.3 will help us transition more smoothly into 5.4 and it won't be so jarring.
I really hope (and I'm confident it will be) that this is something they look into. Chakras feel like something they were beta testing in Heavensward before rolling out to other jobs in Stormblood in the form of all the gauges (ninki, kenki, beast gague, oath gage, etc) But when it came time to move monk over to this new system, rather than letting the monk accumulate more resource than it needed to execute a skill like every other job in the game, monk still is tied to being forced to use Forbidden Chakra/Enlightenment IMMEDIATELY or risk overcapping. It breaks my heart to see that little gold ball float toward me too when I just hit 5 stacks and am using the skill but still lose that chakra during times when Brotherhood is up
I see no reason why the potential can't finally be fully explored and expanded on now that Monks won't be split between two resource systems that both have to work. I wouldn't say it certain that we eventually get a light chakra/shadow chakra system but the room is there to grow. I can think of many ideas that fit well in both the established lore and the Hinduism themes it leans into. I'm all for a hypothetical where we use our accumulated chakras to go full Hindu deity, sprout six ghost arms out of our back and go Star Platinum on people.I really hope (and I'm confident it will be) that this is something they look into. I don't know what the point of this post is. You're here at the end of the ride, the day after the lead developer agreed with one of the biggest points contained in this thread before committing to shakeup in the next major patch.

Just upping the cap to 7 chakras instead of 5 would both bring the concept more in line with Hindu philosophy as well as solve the problem of overcapping. At least that's my thinking.I see no reason why the potential can't finally be fully explored and expanded on now that Monks won't be split between two resource systems that both have to work. Just had an epiphany: the most logical change to gl is to drop stacks one by one instead of all at the same time.
That or they gonna give a button to just get full stacks on a cd, like BLM Enochian.
They're making it into a trait, possible a passive trait to just auto have the extra speed and damage.
Seeing how they said they need to rework ALL of mnk's skills to adjust to the change.
So highly doubt its gonna just drop "one by one" as they wouldn't have to rework anything if that was the case, and TK would still be useless along with the GL upskills not needing to really be touched basically.
For your other speculation, that still would be making mnk still revolve around GL soo...
As for my speculation.
I think they're actually gonna make it into a passive as I said. So you just auto have GL4 at the start, I also think they're going to ice the fist stances as its pretty useless now. Because if not, we're basically just saying in FoF just like the old days.
I much prefer if we just had fist of wind build in with GL so we can just have the extra speed and ice the other two as its basically viper kiss or w/e nin had before for extra damage.
The only skill I actually don't know what they're gonna do to is Anatman...it was used to build/hold GL but now "if" GL is a passive...what hell would it be used for?
All it would currently do is just hold your stance so it doesn't count down which is a pretty so so to pretty much useless (not that mnk isn't use to that) skill to have.
