A few functions I really miss

I know that people are tired of the "Bring X back from FFXI" threads, however I personally feel as if some things have been removed in an attempt to deliberately and forcefully move in another direction than FFXI, with the sole purpose of doing so and not consider reusing some of the great little features.

What I miss from FFXI is not NMs that took 36 hours to spawn and required 6 people to kill, or spending a year getting my first 75 so I could "start the game for real", or anything big like that.

I just miss some of the subtle tiny little features of FFXI like searching for people from your log, and being able to search for people by name.
Being able to manage people in an LS or a party without having to stand on top of them.
Being able to see which area someone from either my party or LS is currently in and what their current class/job is even if they're not right next to me.

I really get the feeling that some of the small subtle but awesome things about FFXI have been removed to prove that they can turn this game in another direction, and that's fine. I just don't see any reason not to use these tiny excellent features that made the game more intuitive.

I like that FFXIV is not an FFXI clone, and there are things from FFXI that I would hate to see again, but these are features that I miss on a daily basis because they made it easier to gather a party, or searching to see if a friend was online (if said friend was not in your friendlist), and yet they were all optional, so you could just choose not to use them if you didn't like them.

But I would like to hear people's opinions on the matter.

It doesn't matter how practical/helpful it is, everyone here will hate the idea because "FFXI ALREADY DID THIS OMG THIS ISN'T FFXI-2!!!"

That's what I fear But I think it's silly not to implement said features as optional features, if enough people could agree that they were actually helpful in FFXI. People who don't want them can choose not to use them. It's not a drastic change like changing how NMs work or bringing back the need to purchase spells (which sucked ;_; )

I don't see the need to go in another direction with the only reason being to do so :/ especially not on these tiny excellent features.

Most people said it for content features, not UI features

I wish it was XI-2, then we'd still have a slot for a real FFXIV game

well im not gonna say that but the other obvious thing, coming in 2.0, coming in 2.0, probably coming in 2.0 lol.

Most of those things you mentioned have been said as issues with the server configuration and cannot be changed until the overhaul.

I do wish some of the small things, like /sea and being able to see where a player is located (as well as their job) seems basic and is needed.

The /sea feature was implemented in patch 1.21. I don't remember the details or how it stacks agains XI's. But is there. I think you activate it by typing /search. I don't remember quite well, at job atm, so unable to confirm!

    Edit: FOUND IT!

•[dev1333] The text command /search (/who) has been added for performing player searches.
For example, the following command line performs a search for pugilists between levels 10 and 20, whose status is Online.
    /search online pgl 10-20
The following conditions can be specified:
    * All conditions are selected when none are designated.
    •Player Status
ONLINE (logged in) / INVITE (seeking invite) / PARTY (currently in party)
    Ex.) /search invite
    •Class
DOW (Disciples of War) / PGL (pugilist) / GLA (gladiator) / MRD (marauder) / ARC (archer) / LNC (lancer) / DOM (Disciples of Magic) / THM (thaumaturge) / CNJ (conjurer) / DOH (Disciples of the Hand) / WDK (woodworker) / BSM (blacksmith) / ARM (armorer) / GSM (goldsmith) / LTW (leatherworker) / WVR (weaver) / ALC (alchemist) / CUL (culinarian) / DOL (Disciples of the Land) / MIN (miner) / BTN (botanist) / FSH (fisher)
    Ex.) /search con
    •Job
Search for only those players who have obtained the jobs affiliated with the designated class.
    Ex.) /search job
    •Level
    •XX: Search for exact match.
    •XX-YY or XX
    Ex.) /search 45-50
    * Omitting a value will result in a search for players within 5 levels of your own.

    •Grand Company Affiliation
GCL (Maelstrom) / GCU (Immortal Flames) / GCG (Order of the Twin Adder) / GCN (no affiliation)
    * All conditions are selected when none are designated.
    Ex.) /search gcg
    •Area
Search for players in the designated area.
    Ex.) /search [South Shroud]
*As is the case with all subcommands, place names with more than one word need to be in brackets.

    •Language
EN (English) / JA (Japanese) / FR (French) / DE (German)
    Ex.) /search en
If the Search interface is open when /search is executed, the conditions on the intertace will change to reflect those specified in the text command.

    It's all coming in 2.0

They still need to add /search name and add linkshell features.

You can add players to your party by type /pcmd add name or kick using /pcmd kick name
