Right, then... [Nier: Automata/Copied Factory] [Spoilers]

So, Nier: Automata takes place on Earth, right? So if, at any point, there's a solid link drawn between the raid itself and the actual Nier games does that not mean that Earth would exist within the Final Fantasy universe? A post apocalyptic version of Earth at that.

I'm curious to see how it'd be handled, assuming it's even acknowledged. So far, I'm led to believe that everything tied to 'Nier' in general is canon and linked, so I'm not sure that FFXIV's brush with Nier would be the exception to the rule.

Nah, I'm not sure because the logs you can find tell something about world exploring.
So they just, somehow, travelt for any reason to different worlds.

    Spoilers for NieR:A
The most likely connection is Hydelyn is in the same universe as Earth but are not the same planet or Earth being a shard etc. Ending D of NieR:A has 9S go with machine lifeforms on a rocket to outer space, this is the most likely way to connect the two but it is a Yoko Taro crossover and anything could be possible with him at the helm.

Much like the Ivalice raids or the hunt for Rathalos, it's likely a case of "this similar incident happened here too", rather than the entirety of Nier Automata happening on the First and linking us to Earth. At least, from the FF side, who knows how the Nier side will interpret it. Yoko Taro is a strange man.

Yoko Taro said in an interview the Raid will be canon to NieR, iirc.

I'm taking Lore way too seriously. And I'm not sorry about that.

Given that the even that causes NieR to even happen is the events of Drakengard the dumped the Red Dragon the Giant into "normal" Earth... NieR and Drakenguard don't actually happen in the same "universe". Something from one universe got into another universe somehow and caused all kinds of problems. We could easily be dealing with something along those lines here.

That still causes weird issues if NieR/Drakengard canon has to be integrated into FFXIV's canon. Either "our Earth" is still out there somewhere, or another shard, and/or there's a whole separate layer of alternate universes to deal with on top of shards and split timelines.

I also have a long-term dislike of fantasy world suddenly becoming connected to our real world/universe. Even if we don't visit Earth, it messes with physics - instead of it being a completely invented universe where aether is the building block of life, we're now connected to the world where atoms do the same thing less-magically and energy doesn't spontaneously form into solid crystals. It's just... hard to integrate and I don't like it.

It's been one of the reasons I really don't like the prospect of the crossover being a lore-integrated raid rather than a novelty event, especially if it's supposed to be canon to NieR. I can only hope they remain vague enough about the details that it can be taken as "one-way canon" and doesn't force the connection of FFXIV's universe to ours.

Maybe the connection is the other way. Maybe the ancients created a tiny solar system with a habitable planet with totally different physics just to see what happens. Earth is contained in a bubble somewhere at the bottom of the sea on one of the shards.

The Nier stuff is because one of the Ancients observed one of the little dudes on his experimental tiny planet create the Automata game and thought it looked neat.

I have to agree with Iscah. I really don't like the feeling of it being an actual crossover. Keep it a meta crossover but in-universe it's part of the actual world, the way Crystal Tower and Ivalice were.

Maybe the shard of Hydealin composes a universe and Earth another. Either way, the "Earth" of Nier series became a fantasy world at the moment of a giant beast and a dragon landed there. The events between Drakengard and Nier are VERY fantasy to me.

If you are curious about Drakengard/Nier Lore, check this video, is VERY good:

If you wanna se only the part that started Nier saga, jump to 10 min.
