OP is known for not actually looking for answers but constantly lashing out on people personally, calling them to "go back to the ballpit" or "Crunchyroll forums" and in general "does not care" or "bye bye", "see you" sort of stuff when he reads something he does not like (or basically anything). I went against the claim because most people that say they play lalas is never because anything that has anything to do with liking children. Where as males that will only play female chars actually, verbally or via text, state it's because of sexual preference (in so many words). Do you get the difference yet?

And it's ultimately on the company, you can't just expect people to stop having a preference because of this, and the preference will forever stick so long as companies aren't willing to budge and risk different choices.

It's on the company to make money? It comes off as if you're saying it's their fault(that males play female chars for sexual reasons) which it's not? Back in the day male characters had an equal amount of good costumes. But then as more people entered the mmo scene and people started becoming more vocal, it became obvious that a decent amount of males would only play female characters...so again...yeah money and resources are going to go that way. Companies do what customers want because that makes them money. Companies didn't start off making better designs for the female models.

It's a really big think question but I'd say a part of is the fact that it's a game, which lets us try out things that we normally wouldn't think of otherwise. I've tried playing a female in the game (since the game gives a fantasia for free with its CEs) and I found it to be really interesting.

We make jokes about many characters looking the same in game so from an outsider's perspective (I was a male midlander at the time) trying out being a female miqo, was something I found pretty neat. Seeing how the armor looks on a different body type and just seeing how all of their emotes and poses works.

I'll probably stick with male characters as they're something I'm more used to, but I'd always be down for trying different races when promotions come in for more fantasia. I'd say if the game gives you the option (for free or at an extremely reduced rate) to try something new like a new race/gender/ or even both just take it and try it. It's something you can say you tried over being left out a discussion.

Yeah I can really see it as being like a hard thing to describe. It's probably not so much my place to say since I'm not really changing my character into that RP mindset but more so just a person trying out new things for the sake of it.

But like any escape (like breaking into new music or hobbies) I think it's just something you fall into naturally through a realization or an acceptance and it's just hard to describe but it feels right. For some people they probably can get it down in a couple of minutes of character character and wardrobe options but for others it just takes a while until that one viewpoint or interest open the possibilities for you.

I do find the people going into the detailed ideas in this thread to be genuinely interesting since it's made try to think differently then my first post in here came to be. Especially after reading your reply and just mulling it over. I think that's really cool and what a good example a thread like this can do if the right discussions are had.

Luckily for my wallet I don't really change my character's appearance all that much but costumes.....oh my I have to have all the costumes even if it's just for like one piece of the costume lol.

Girl, you and me both! I have bought the angel gear for just the halo, the nezha lady's for just the gloves, y'shtola for the thigh boots, far eastern maiden for the shorts and leggings, Lightning's for the skirt (hair was a bonus), and even more sets though I actually use main pieces of those. If I had the money I would also buy, and have had my eye on, far eastern schoolgirl for the boots with laces plus the little head ribbon which I think could go well on a healer or caster set, and the High Summoners Attire for the boots as well. I wouldn't mind grabbing the demonic attire for the horns either. but I would have to have a specific outfit idea in mind to spend that much for them since there are alternatives in-game.. I spend this money in the mogstation for costumes and fantasia, and have only a grand total of one cash shop mount that I got on sale!... I think I have odd priorities..

I think this is a combination of both, and because SE doesn't make males more appealing, in my opinion, less people play them. Like me I don't play males in this game, because I don't find them appealing. But I'll play a handsome high elf in ESO, a pure sith warrior in SWTOR. I know a lot of male players here have been desperately wanting the warrior of darkness facial hair, and god forbid they ever come out with male viera..

Nah your priorities are fine even from my biased PoV. In a game like this where you TP mostly every where and everything is instanced, mounts aren't all that important or needed. Glamour is needed because that's like 80% of your dps :P. I'm glad I'm not the only one that buys costumes for certain parts lol.


I think back when things were starting to change it would be a combination of both sides. Like companies should've stuck to their guns instead of caving in. But this late in the mmo game? If you have limited resources, (like every dev/publisher claims) limitations and every other excuse that's thrown around, yeah they're going to put those "limited" resources into what players want the most and I can't say I'm mad at them for it. When entire non sex based games exist and the emphasis is on "the female form" because of the "I don't want to stare at male butt" preference and/or people throwing miniature hissy fits because a costume was censored or breast sizes were "nerfed" you can't really blame them.

Edit: For anyone wondering what hissy fits and stuff I'm talking about, I don't have the actual links on hand but the BnS community wanted the boobs to be bigger and had a large thread on that. They also were upset a costume/npc that came to NA was censored.

Archeage players were upset that they didn't get the succubus costume. (A costume with very little covered as you'd imagine)

Some BDO players were upset that the newest class Shai (which looks like a kid even more so than Lalas) had different underwear. Shai has little kid underwear that comes down to the knees, think of something like long johns.

There were even bigger debates about the tamer not having enough sexy costumes, even though it's like that because lore wise she's like 15 or 16. That wasn't enough for them, that they even went on about how that's legal age of consent and other stuff just to get skimpier costumes.

Sidenote BDO is also another great example of a mmo that's aware that most males play female chars, hence most of the classes there being gender locked to female models with extremely skimpy outfits.

Somehow over looked this. To answer your question...again...I don't know how many times I have to say this, straight males that refuse to play male characters have stated themselves it's for sexual reasons. Like why are you trying to argue when your camp has stated the reason. I then even explained that there's males that play female chars for RP, themes, etc but they aren't ones that refuse to play male chars, they usually don't care.

I'm not talking about gay dudes, lesbians, trans, metrosexuals, or even extremely feminine males. Just normal straight heterosexual males that refuse to play female chars themselves has stated as such, even you stated it. I'm not getting what's so hard to grasp here.
