On one hand, it'll be bringing more players to the game. On the other...it'll inevitably mean more work to ensure that each new content patch is up to scratch and ready to release on an additional platform. Hopefully we won't be bound by any further limitations to the point where we cannot see an update to the character customisation system, for example.

My main concern is that the development team are already stretched thin and the additional legal work and testing will put an even heavier burden atop their shoulders.

Really though, we have ps5 already announced and Xbox will probably follow suit, why release the game on a dying console that is just inevitably gonna hold the game back? Just wait and release it on the next gen console.

Considering Phil Spencer avoided giving a release date, I suspect they may be waiting until the Scarlett launches. Granted, a lot of people don't upgrade their consoles immediately. The PS4 and Xbox One will have another year or two have solid shelf life.

While it does state that they plan to bring FFXI and FFXIV to the X-Box if you read the article it says that they plan to do so at a later date and not with the ones releasing in 2020. So while it's in the works this could be anywhere from 2021 to several years down the road.
