I could never imagine it being so busy in a area that having speech bubbles from players would make it hard to see a NPC, most aetherites in the servers I’ve visted minus Balmung Ul’dah don’t have much conversation going, and even if there was you enough conversation going on that these chat bubbles crowed the area, I’m sure they would have a option to turn it off as people would share the same concern as you.

The only exception to this is during major events (Moonfire Faerie, All Saint’s Wake, etc) and Balmung Ul’dah sometimes (wasn’t always super chatty when I visited there), but I turn off my general chat general to avoid the the less-than-stellar chat quality during those events, and I’m sure others do too, and all I would have to do is turn off the chat bubbles to acompany this choice.
