There are several areas of this game that I learned I just never unlocked as I went through the content but nowhere does it tell you unlocking stuff in Mor Dhana a level 50 zone from Realm Reborn affects what you can actually do at level 80 in Shadowbringers. It seems like a failure of development to atleast give a new player a tip box that says "hey go do that quest or content will never be unlocked".
The "tip box" you're looking for - or the closest thing to it - is that any quests that unlock game features or side content have a blue marker with a plus symbol, like job quests. There should be someone waiting at your GC headquarters to introduce you to PVP (two types with separate unlocks), elite mark hunting and beast tribes if you're interested in those.

I'm not sure what you're referring to about getting locked out of content at Lv80 - there isn't anything I was aware of - though I have a spoilery question so will hide it.

Are you specifically locked out of content, or did you just hear that having completed the Crystal Tower raids affects the game somehow? If so, that's nothing to worry about - while it's definitely better to have played it first, it just adds a few extra lines of dialogue, and you can revisit it with the cutscene viewer and see the altered version if you complete CT now. It's essentially the 'canon ending' to the game, as the non-restricted dialogue options are a bit lacklustre, so definitely do it. The first quest starts in Mor Dhona.

If that isn't your issue, what are you referring to? You can use hidden text boxes like this with the coding "hb" - you'll see it if you quote my text.

Things I love about the game:

    1) Story - One of the best in the genre
    2) Music - Again a masterpiece.
    3) Character Design - Love the character design... Miqo'te Master Race btw
    4) Extreme Amounts of Polish. - This game launches with almost no bugs and glitches. And the content is very high quality.
    5) It is a Final Fantasy - Best Series in the video game world.

    Things I hate

    1) Complete lack of Guild Content. This game is the worst AAA mmo I have played in terms of guild related content.
    2) Lack of General Endgame Progression Content available at one time.
    3) Hamster Wheel Designed content. Same thing over and over and over and over.
    4) Crafting not tied into endgame progression. basically mainly vanity or entree lvl.
    5) Too much focus on vanity gear/items in general.
    6) A cashshop in a P2P mmo... I am already paying for development with my sub and box cost... I do not think it is right to pay extra for stuff after the fact. It is like buying a hamburger then having to pay extra for the bun. Aka all those costumes in the cashshop... I ALREADY PAID FOR THEM WITH MY SUB.

All in all I feel FFXIV is a great mmo. It is just not one you can play as your only or main mmo. It is great side mmo to play and a mmo to play for a week or two when content patches come out.

    You did not.

And buy to play or free to play mmorpgs are much worse.

I agree here, the cash shop in FFXIV is much better than many other mmo's. Ads for the cash shop are not pushed into your face everytime you login, nor is there any shop ingame only the mogstation. You buy things if you want them, nobody forces you. The cash shop items are mostly for fans with extra money, if you want to support the developers even more, you can buy things from the shop. Besides, name changing, server changing, appearance changing is way cheaper than any other mmo's

Yes, it's not even actually in the game. Yep, in ESO you get advertisements when you log in, and other games pushing you to look at the cash shop and their "deals" constantly. It just leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Free to play games are the worse, and buy to play is such a gimmick. Yeah ESO is buy to play, but with the crafting bag and stuff you will also have a sub for that game. I consider that game a sub based game, I won't play it unless I have a sub, and I am sure many others won't either. Just like I consider SWTOR a sub based game still. "Buy to play" and "free to play" are just an excuse for them to try and get away with worse and worse microtransactions, without an actual sub requiring them to actually release content on a regular schedule. In fact those games will usually end up costing the dedicated player MUCH MORE than a subscription based mmorpg, especially FFXIV.

That all you said was what ultimately took me out of that game, that and reading stuff on their forums, seems all ZOS does is take stuff away and people are very unhappy with the game.

Anyway, when it starts feeling "Perfect World-ish" with the pushing the cash shop, I bail out. I stopped blowing money on Perfect World at a good time but Im still ashamed of the amount I spent after getting R9 -.-. I hope the mogstation doesn't get transformed into that because I'll bail out of this game too.

Personally, I like most things about the game. It's not perfect but it does enough things well in enough areas that I can't really find major issue with it. Maybe my favourite aspect of the game, though, is that it really feels like an MMO that lets you enjoy it without being completely hardcore. I've played a ton of MMOs over the years but pretty much all of them ended up in a place where you had to develop a hardcore mindset to get even a decent amount out of them, whether that meant getting hardcore about getting really great at the game, getting hardcore about essentially treating the game as a job, or getting hardcore into dedicated grouping and team play. FF14 does offer some progression in those avenues but it really feels like an MMO you can enjoy most of while still being fairly casual about it. Even YoshiP himself has straight up said that the game is designed so that you can and should take breaks. I know some players don't like that and want FF14 to be HARDCORE but it's just not, and that's fine for me.

I used to like the game mostly because of the dungeon grind for the relic weapon and the job design / gameplay. But oh well, they killed the relic grind in SB, the relic is not even vaguely announced for ShB and they also killed off my main job Dark Knight this expansion. DRK is a completely different job now than it was when I got in love with it in HW.

So why am I still here? c.c,,

I like to see lalafell bodies scattered around the FC garden.

No wonder they do it: players fall for it.

A good example in FFXIV is the fantasia. Some spend obscene quantities of money on that even to change stuff that should be at the aesthetician by default.
