I'm not really one for themepark mmo's, usually. The reasons I like FFXIV:

    - Final Fantasy nostalgia button pushing.
    - The story is pretty interesting so far (disclaimer: only just past ARR MSQ, but I understand it's supposed to improve as I progress). A lot of the side quests and npc dialogues have been very amusing.
    - Ability to play all classes on a single character.
    - Visual design, sound design, soundtrack are all appealing to me.
    - Large variety of things to do: dungeons, crafting, story quests, minigames, chocobo breeding, mahjong, fishing, etc. I like being able to bounce around to different tasks without hassle.
    - Miqo'te are cute.

It's the best MMO by a good margin I'd say, so if you like MMO's it's the most sensible option. MMO's aren't generally about amazing gameplay, though; it's mostly about character building. Play with stats; get the prettiest gear; get the biggest numbers; etc. You have to enjoy the process of building and maximizing if you're going to stay interested for the super long term. This game's story, thematics, score, wealth of solo content, etc. all give it good casual appeal as well, though.

I will say, however, that the lower levels are a slog gameplay-wise here even compared to other MMO's. For most characters almost all of level 1-50 is a 2-3 button rotation at best, and getting constantly level synched back to that, even after you think you've escaped it, is kind of rough. Gameplay-wise this game doesn't give an amazing first impression, but it does get better.

Only reason like the game is doesn't have forced open world pvp to it and get pretty good ping most time to it.

Going to be a bit real here. This game saved me from a very dark place in my life. My hope was nearly gone before I decided to try out this game. I was instantly hooked, I played the trial for 20ish minutes before I bought the full version.

What has kept me here is the casual aspect of the game. I absolutely love how I can go about it at my own pace. And I love that raiding is a choice and not the entire game like it was in WOW. Also, the story keeps me hooked. And my character, he is absolutely precious and I never want to change him.

I've been around for a little over 3 years now, and I have met many wonderful people here during that time. I'm in a much better place now and have no plans of giving up this game.

I'm honestly kind of curious on what classes you've played that are above level 70 for you to seriously think this. I'm halfway to having everything at 80 with the rest being 70+ and I've never been bored on any of the classes and aside from maybe RDM, most of the other jobs are definitely not lacking skills to use. It just honestly sounds like the game is not your cup of tea. I personally love it for a combination of things that work in tandem with each other: The amazing story and music, how (for me at least) It feels like a I'm living in a world, the RP and Raiding community, crafting and gathering. The crafting system is hands down the best across any MMO in my opinion and honestly I just love the world of Final Fantasy games. It's fine if you're not feeling it, but i definitely disagree on your take about the combat. That's all.

Think you're the second or third to ask me roughly this question, some classes I find it's worse due to the fact there's too many requirement or situational useage about them, leaving you with the bare minimal to play with.

Example, I have my DRK at 74, during combat you're mostly just pressing 1,2,3, every so often I'll use 1 other skill to keep my 10% damage boost up, another skill that you simply use when it's off cooldown (I think it's roughly 30s), and the last skill I use once my class gauge hits a set amount once again, then it's just back to 1,2,3, (and the occasional shield onto me or someone else that costs 3k mana and lets you use one of the other 3k mana required skills for "free" if the shield fully absorbs its max amount in the time limit) yeah there is other skills such as AoE and damage reductions, but my "lack of skills to use" complaint is simply down to the bare simplicity of the combat giving you little to no choice in how to actually play a class effectively, if you're not pressing 1>2>3 then you're doing it wrong, I may have 10-15 other skills to use, but they're either situational (e.g damage reductions, interrupt, etc), AoEs that have no baring to an individual target like a boss, or something you press because it's a large cooldown damage skill or a class gauge requirement that's filled up allowing you to finally press the button, which if I remember right tends to be every 2-3 rotations of pressing 1,2,3.

Because i like mmo's, FFXIV is really awesome, constantly gives good updates, great story, amazing music, cool weapons, armor and jobs. You can tell the creators care about this game and not just about making money. I used to play WoW, but now i just can't stand it anymore, as after Wrath of the Lich king the story went downhill, its not interesting anymore nor do i care about any of the characters. WoW praises you as some sort of super strong leader or something, i don't like that. In FFXIV you stay as an adventurer and thats something i like about the story also you will see all those side characters progress and change over time even cities getting rebuilt. Also, FFXIV offers all jobs on a single character rather than having to create alts and redo all the quests and story just to enjoy other classes.

Gameplay wise, my goal is to get all jobs to max, whether i like them or not, its fun to try different things and you gain great experience from playing everything, what skills every job uses and so on.

I can't say much for DRK, but I've been leveling a Paladin and around level 70 there's enough to do. There's a 1>2>3 dot combo and a 1>2>3 DD combo, while you weave Spirits within, Circle of Scorn, Requiscat, and your low CD DR. You switch to DD spells while under the effect of Requiscat until your mana gets low, and the rest of your mitigation CD's/stuns you have to constantly be aware of and use appropriately. So you're managing 2 Dots, a bunch of CDs and have a couple combos and a good amount of abilities to weave. This is on top of the usual tank responsibilities of watching enmity, positioning bosses in a way to keep the group safe, being aware of fight mechanics, etc. And it seems like at 80 I'll have even more abilities/buttons to manage.

How complicated things can be depends on how optimal you want to attempt to be. Any more buttons would be a bit too much, especially since a lot of people play on PS4 with a controller.

Also, I think some DPS classes end up being more convoluted and button heavy, so you may want to look into that if that's what makes the gameplay fun for you.
