FFXIV is literally the only MMO I've enjoyed mostly everything about since SWG - Star Wars Galaxies. I've never liked WoW and I've resented it for killing SWG so I never bothered to get into it. After SWG I tried the original Guild Wars and had some fun at first but got bored really fast after finishing the game's story. Next I tried Saga of Ryzom which had a really really interesting concept but ultimately I left because I just couldn't get into it. Took a long long break from MMO's after that until I found EVE Online. Tried it and while I loved wormhole exploration I hated everything else because it felt like a second job and everyone that regularly plays that game is a budding psychopath. After that I took another break from MMO's then played FFXIV during ARR but after getting to end game, maxing all my crafting classes, and coming up to a lack of content I got bored and left shortly before HW released. Played ESO after that and enjoyed the story, but the monetization I wasn't a fan of. Ultimately it turned me off due to technical problems with Steam's authentication servers. The game's developers blamed Steam and Steam blamed them so I just left. Came back to FFXIV before the release of Stormblood and I've been here ever since even though I do take regular breaks from the game to play other games. I think what keeps me coming back is #1 the story is the main draw. I've played a lot of the other Final Fantasy titles throughout the years and I'm a big fan of the franchise as a whole despite not really enjoying FF15 all that much and wishing FF13 was tossed into the sun. #2 the atmosphere, i'm a big fan of fantasy themes. #3 The crafting I love. It's relaxing and allows me to just sit back and relax. #4 The PvE content as a whole is great. Not to easy, not to hard for the most part. Allows players of every background to enjoy the game.

Love the aesthetic, the music, the lore, the MSQ, most of the jobs and instanced content. I love being the WoL/D.

To be honest, I only play this game because the crafting system was the most unique I’ve ever seen in a game. It got me hooked immediately!! Then once Stormblood came around, the crafting just got a bit too stale and easy for me. It just wasn’t as rewarding. So now, I just occasionally sub to play content like nier, then unsub again. This game’s endgame content in general just isn’t very fun or challenging anymore for me. it pains me even more that the character customization is so poor.

also I think this game is popular because it has the name “Final Fantasy” in the title, and it has a decent story. but for me, I’m more of a content person than a story person hopefully a new fun mmo pops up in the future

(First forgive my flawed English) Most people who complain about something seem to be more focused on the MMO part and not the RPG.

I played several mmorpg's and at one time or another these games killed the game's immersion.

Here I feel part of something.

    Points I like:

    Immersion
    Story
    Some character
    Maps
    Fight and skill system
    Gpose
    Houses
    Armor
End game not required (Not that I'm casual, but I don't see myself doing such content)
    Professions
    Community

    Negative point:
    - No dialogue during msq.
-lacks being able to answer some boring characters. (To me it's the biggest flaw of the game)

I like the community and world/lore. Don't really care for the combat honestly. Not a huge fan of tab targeting. Though despite that I still find content enjoyable!

Mostly, the combat in this game is more involved for me than WoW's combat is currently. The involvement level with rotations/skills has been going down a bit, and I'm not all that happy about certain features of particular classes.

That said, Savage is what generally keeps me around. And even then, there's Ultimate to do, granted I haven't done the latter just because I didn't unlock UCOB and Ex-Death wasn't current the moment I stepped into my first Savage raid in Sigmascape. And my friends haven't had interest in doing any of them.

Outside of raiding content, there's... well, on Crystal, at least RP and generally people talking. But nothing else draws me in much with this title, it's just the Savage fights are usually pretty fun, and other MMO's aren't in a fun state to play.

I actually hate most MMOs. But something about this one keeps me going.
    - I love the FF series and enjoy interacting with elements from other games.
    - I can see and do everything on one character.
    - Story is interesting and fantastic.
    - The community is (mostly) awesome.
    - I can work hard and get rewarded.
    - I've met so many friends through this and it has gotten me through a lot.

    There's my main answer.

Other than that, it's something to play with friends. Mostly a social outlet.
