The player character in WoW exists, but only as a generic soldier/mercenary. All of the important deeds are credited to major lore figures instead. See all the memes about Thrall killstealing Deathwing.

I've had many people leave WoW for this so I can't agree with you there. Most of my friends got bored of what it has become. I've played way other MMO's that were cash grabs, pay to win, awful $$ weapon, gear enchantments, etc.. I can say easily this is one of the best MMORPG's out there that you don't have to spend money to advance or get better at.also, I feel like a lot of ppl probs just play this one cuz most other MMOs suck. If MMOS were to rise again I doubt XIV would stand much of a chance in the market. It isnt bad but its onyl got its story, graphics and the title Final Fantasy goign for it if Im completely honest. Lore is good but WoW is way better. Combat is ok but most ppl prefer action. A good game but certainly not a spectacular one. (This is my opinion plz dont start a fight)

The story and music are big selling points to me. I've also met a lot of cool people in the last couple years since I've been playing, and I really enjoy the FC I'm in. I also like the overall aesthetic of the game, not to mention I've had fun putting the time and effort to make my game house look nice.

I like this game more than other mmorpgs, and I think it is probably the best one out there currently. I actually love this game, and wish they would add more great content for us to play. I mostly play for glamour, slowly mount farm, killing time in general, I like the feel of the game, and the story is decent (one time through). Don't even do savage, don't find it fun (not when it's current), don't need the stress anyway. This game should appeal to many different players - which probably explains the large amount of players.
ESO, isn't bad, has cool PvP, but I just don't like the game at all. I hate the weapon switching thing and 4 skills, and don't get me started on the aggressive microtransactions and loot boxes. Their "limited time only, get it now"! ploys. PvE is awful in that game, I still play that game on and off, but for story - I am an Elder Scrolls fan.
WoW, I only like PvP in that game. Never got into it when I was younger, so never had any "nostalgia" or whatever else when classic came out.
SWTOR, Honestly, I cannot believe that game is still going. Full of loot boxes and aggressive microtransactions. Not to mention feeling dated (movement, animations), with slow release schedules (slower than ffxiv if you think this is bad). I used to love Star Wars, but the franchise has been, and is being ruined.
Black Desert, too much grind, too much microtransactions - them being a part necessity to gear up iirc. Waste of time, unless you literally live in that game.
Various other Korean MMO's, garbage.. straight up garbage. None of them are good, most of them have dead communities, and the gameplay and movement is clunky. Characters look extremely generic, etc., etc. Mentions would be Archeage, blade & soul, Tera..
Oh, forgot Guild Wars 2, not bad.. doesn't feel clunky.. Just boring.. The best way to explain that game would be it's boring.

I have always been a big fan of the stories in the FF world of games. I very much like this one. I also enjoy the graphics, and the setting in general. Eorzea is a lovely place to spend my time and i enjoy it very much.
Now the "official" answer:
As many others, I suffer from ALTitis. The fact that i can do all the fun jobs on just one character is a HUGE selling point to me
Overall, I am happy with this game and enjoy it very much![]()

I just like Final Fantasy. I've played I, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, X-2, and a number of other side games.

For me the KSP were:
- Final Fantasy MMO (pretty much played every single FF games so I knew I would at least try it - You are a fanboy or you are not)
- Being able to change classes at will (I get bored easily so I like to hop from one job to the other)
- Lalafells

The story is the main thing for me. I used to play WoW, but Blizzard's horrible mismanagement of characters, blatant and often senseless retcons, and generally sloppy writing drove me away.

Friends are the biggest reason, if they leave I'll probably leave too. Focusing on what the game itself offers, it's less grindy then some other games I've played and their is enough challenge in high level content to make it interesting.
I feel the same way. I think content could be more engaging if it was built around being more dynamic, but that's not the path the devs want to take. The scripted fight nature does allow for competition though, so if you're into trying to beat your personal best or competing with other players you can look into that. There is also a little bit of unpredictability in running with random groups or trying classes you don't know very well. I've had fun running Alliance Raids and EX trials on classes I'm less proficient at. Even if I know the general flow of an encounter, I don't know exactly how an off class's rotation lines up so I end up having to improvise a bit.my gripe with the entirety of the PvE in this game is that for the most part, once you've experienced it once, it's virtually the same thing on repeat without fail.
Boss mechanics work off patterns that go on repeat, so once you remember that there's not much challenge even in the hardest content (providing you can find a group to pre-made with that doesn't have the memory of a goldfish), there's no real reaction mechanics and stuff that really tests a players skill, not unless you count "remembering" as skill.
