In my experience my whole alliance is split all over the map which makes aoe healing not as effective while trying to heal and dps at the same time during that one phase. I usually try to stay in the middle of the map, though I've had some instances where the tank has aimed the tank at me and got me nearly killed with it.

This isn't a tanking problem, or a healing problem - this is a stupidity issue within the raid. All it takes is the raid to work together for a change rather than against the mechanics. You can literally join near the center boss and attack either both tanks from behind each of them as a raid while the goliaths are faced away and AoE heal just fine. If one of your tanks is pointing the goliaths to the center of the platform, they should be slapped on the face and told to wake up.
