Stuck in the mindset of FFXI, you can't see the highest potential of this MMO

It seems like too many people on these forums are stuck on the things they liked from FFXI, and they are demanding that FFXIV must copy/paste FFXI's systems exactly how they were.

It seems that we are forgetting we can take the good from FFXI and leave the bad. We will never see the great potential a Final Fantasy MMO has unless we can accept innovation and encourage the dev team to try things differently than how they were in the past.

Examples:

-People miss how the NMs were in FFXI. I agree with them, FFXI's persistent world-spawned NMs are much more interesting than the ones we have currently in FFXIV.

There's a thrill to hunting NMs in FFXI because when and how they spawn is more complex than it is in FFXIV. But this does not mean we have to import FFXI's time-consuming, frustrating "lotto spawns" and lengthy respawn timers into FFXIV. Here's just one example of how they could bring back the thrill of hunting NMs without all the time-wasting, frustration, and low drop rates:

I'm all for adding changes to NMs, but how about some NEW ideas that are FUN? Such as, having players gather rare items from mobs and gathering points around the world and then using them to "summon" NMs at special areas around the game world. This cuts out the waiting time while still making things more complex and interesting, and it even adds to the player economy by giving us new things to acquire and sell

-People remember how level sync was abused to level fast in FFXI. This does not mean that "level sync" has to behave the same way in FFXIV. Don't oppose the implementation of level sync outright because you remembered it in FFXI one way, instead, support a NEW version of level sync that balances the game.

If they did it right they would work like this:

Level 46 player wants to play with her level three 30 friends, so she joins their group, level syncs, and now she has the same amount of power as she did at lvl30. Now they can all group together and do toto-rak and all get exp and it will still be challenging, but the level 46 player's exp is somewhat reduced so her progression to 50 stays at the same rate.

They can give the higher level player gil/seals/special item rewards for level syncing to help lower level players fill their groups, and this will act as incentive despite the reduced EXP.

Level sync should only allow players of disparate levels to play together and be rewarded. It shouldn't allow anyone to level up faster.

These are just a few examples of how people need to break outside the box that FFXI put their mindset in, and how just a little bit of creative thinking can result in potential solutions that are better than just copy/pasting FFXI.

I'm not saying that my ideas are the best and maybe they're not realistic and would never work, but at least I'm trying to address the problems that prevent many people from enjoying FFXI and FFXIV.

Next time, instead of asking or expecting the dev team to copy-paste things from FFXI, please try to think of some way they could build on FFXI's positive aspects and create a new MMO experience that works better for everyone beyond just the hardcore former FFXI players.

I think the problem goes both ways because you have some random topic that involves XI and immediately you get two divisive camps. Camp A says "OMG this was so much fun..." while camp B says "Ugh that was horrid."

Camp B immediately lumps Camp A into a group of people just wanting things from XI because they were in XI. Then, on the other hand, Camp A lumps camp B into people who just blindly hate XI so they hate anything remotely connected to it. Neither group is right and the players often swap camps depending on the topic.

The simple fact is, some people like some things and other people like other things.

Yeah I definitely agree, the issue goes both ways.

I think that we should be able to look at FFXI for ideas and suggestions, and people shouldn't immediately cry "no copy/paste!" just because we are inspired by FFXI. But I also think that just because we liked things in FFXI doesn't mean they will work well in FFXIV exactly how they were.

It's important to find a balance between what we like and what works best for everyone.

I think that we should be able to look at FFXI for ideas and suggestions, and people shouldn't immediately cry "no copy/paste!" just because we are inspired by FFXI. But I also think that just because we liked things in FFXI doesn't mean they will work well in FFXIV exactly how they were.

It's important to find a balance between what we like and what works best for everyone.

I pretty much agree. I think most of us here ARE here because we played XI at one point and have at least SOME fond memories of it. There were good things and there were bad things, for each and every individual person. And those things may not be classified the same way depending on who you ask.

The problem is that gamers are naturally very opinionated about what we enjoy in games. That gets in the way more often than not and that's why things get heated.

i read the post, its about how people say that they like the things from XI and how they would like them to be in xiv and the OP is trying to say to have an open mind for the changes in XIV, to embrace different things instead if copy pasting stuff from the older game.

SO then why would you say what you said? The OP is not asking to make this FFXI-2. They want people to have an open mind about ideas... the can pull ideas from other games and make them better for this game I see no problem at all with that.

Also why not offer discussion instead of just saying this is FFXIV not FFXI-2... give more thoughts and opinions rather then simply op for the attack...

i was saying "this is FFXIV, NOT FFXI-2" as a semi joke.

alot of people seem to be wanting ffxi stuff in the game but as the OP said (and should be obvious) this isnt the same game so we dont need to make it like its XI-2.

i can see how people would think it was typed in a hateful tone though, because its in text and you cant hear me saying it, but do people read everything in a hateful tone?
