    Foilage FPS lagg

I have yet tried to look at the models in-game about how the vertices/polys are being. I can tell you this is one of the reason's players lag while riding through areas in this game. It's obviously the foliage and here's one screenshot of one of the models that are using to many planes there's no need for it when u can texture double sided. The planes are behind each other which is what doesn't make sense.

The first screenshot is an original so you can see for yourself and I've also circled some of the leave's just to point out the double faces that are there for no reason it creates no extra detail. It does not create any extra 3demsional It's just a waste of having it all over. I could understand if it wasn't foliage that is spammed all over the land like a rare type of foliage but this is just spammed all over the land. If I found this one I'm sure I'll find others to, I'll be looking for more later I just hope for 2.0 they fix alot of the foliage.

Its not the models really its the graphics engine, it sucks at pretty much for anything other than cutscenes.

The whole game is one unoptimised mess really, 2.0 should be much better.

Blame the game's abuse of using too much alpha and transparent textures for the bushes and tree leaves. It's the same reason they look "fuzzy" "flickery" unless you use super sampling. If you pay attention to the gpu usuage and heat, they raise quite a bit when in a area full of them. Coerthas is the worst in some cases.

Yeah, I don't see much issue with the foliage. Even in an engine as clunky as this one (is it Crystal Tools?), the foliage is not a big deal. The game is fairly pretty, despite being as bare as it is, which is saying something. Since the terrain is very low-poly (typical for MMOs), it frees up a bigger polygon budget for the detail assets like bushes and stuff. Also, most engines shy away from 2-sided rendering because it adds a bunch of unnecessary rendering. I think that adding a few more polys to the detail assets to give the leaves thickness is a good use of a poly budget. Otherwise you get an environment that is just as bland and obviously polygonal as the canvas terrain it is placed on.

As for the alpha maps, I don't know if they are a big issue either. Generally speaking, using a handful of planes with alpha maps on them is cheaper (more efficient use of resources) than assigning even 1 tri per leaf. Current generation software and hardware is very capable of handling the alpha maps, and developers know that and use that to save on resources.

I am a 3D artist too, and I would say that the engine is clunky, yes, but I have a pretty crappy computer and I run with excellent fps in areas with high foliage. I would recommend that you try and adjust your graphics settings or maybe you are just using AOL...

Turn down your shadows... That is the only fps killer for me.
    i7 950 @3.52
    AMD 5870 1gb
    12gb ddr3 ram
    120 ssd

The game runs fairly well on close to max settings, but the shadows are what really eat my fps, so i leave those are standard.
