FYI there's an option to TP right to the Firmament on the aetheryte.I missed them too. I really wish they included the Ishgardian Restoration into the Timers page like they already have for the Doman Restoration. It's not convenient to have to go all the way to Ishgard and then walk to an area outside of the Aethernet just to check for the timer.
4-day event and a third of the worlds already completed it. If this was on purpose, i think it was a bad decision. If this was not on purpose, then it was bad planning. They should have data on Eureka player engagement (a high one) and Blue mage player engagement (a controversial one) to plan how it would go and scale the progress accordingly
If this is all Ishgardian restoration content until 5.2, it should've taken a lot longer than 04 days to complete. I'm disappointed too
Well, it was a part of it though and it didn't need to be but that's all on SE's court.
They admitted that they saw this coming should
have fixed the issue way before or prevented it before the patch even dropped.
Not drop it and say "Go!" and have players scramble as to
what's going wrong and then band-aid fix it, it was too late.
I think a better idea would be doing a Data Center Restoration or something
and make a huge progress bar and then add instances for the FATEs or something.
Anything that didn't take 3 days to complete for the next 3-4 months.
It's was a Lose/Lose situation for a lot of people.
You get there, probably lag to heck and back or stuck in congestion cycle
or you wait but it's too late because the progress was already done.
The concept was nice, execution was a nightmare. Just sucks. :/

Yeah, this was a huge blunder by SE on two fronts.
If it was aimed at the casual crafter/gatherer, then they failed horribly by having the rewards be too sparse to be worth it for them. These are players that may already be rather meh towards the Land and Hand side of the game, and now making those player have to farm and grind at something that they may already dislike is not good design.
If it was aimed at the hardcore carfter/gatherer, they failed horribly because they should have known they'd finish it in 4 days, and then nothing for them to do.
Personally, I hate crafting and gathering, I think its the worst part of XIV. Feeling forced to do content that I dislike to get rewards I want doesn't make me appreciate the reward, it makes me hate the whole of the design. In before "its not content meant for you," but the rewards are meant for everyone. Having the FATE continue to run at certain time intervals would have been a huge boost to those like me that don't craft/gather for whatever their reasons
I honestly don't think they imagined this first iteration of Ishgard Restoration would go perfectly. It is wise of them to ship a very basic barebones form now and see what they need to revise later on. They only have months between patches to work with (not a long time with big software projects) so they can't make substantial content changes but it's enough to work on systematic changes. The scratch card system they plan to introduce, if I can make any assumptions on how it will look, will work out better for people with busy schedules.
Even if we assumed hypothetically that world visit was restricted, just by looking at the current census about the active number of characters on the world with the lowest population (Zeromus 5717), you only have 5.2% of that population being able to participate in the FATE in that world alone. And if you were to take the entire number of players that would be able to participate from all 68 worlds, that would be 20400 among 551026 active players, which is 3.7%. But as you said, they could have done different approaches for this. I'm not sure who thought this would be a good idea for a server wide event that only 4% on average can participate in. And before someone says "You should only take the number of crafters in each world into account", keep in mind that people can contribute at level 20 on any crafting class but can participate in the FATE regardless of any contribution. People will still join for the free scrips and EXP.Well, it was a part of it though and it didn't need to be but that's all on SE's court.

How would instances work, though? Unlike spearate quests, this is an event that essentially moves something along. Pooling resources wouldn't work I don't think.
Having an NPC outside the Firmament to do turn ins is a start, in case the Firmament is full.
As for world visitors, I have seen NUMEROUS times, those who are Wanderes just STAND there inside the Filament while the bar was still being filled on Siren. Not crafting, not helpng in any way so they could take up a space and get the FATE done.
The FATE should give no scripts as a reward which seems to be the biggest draw to do them. If that is taken away, perhaps the Firmaments could be open again, but that would just leave the ability for people to clog up the Firmament.
And what about AFKers there? Home world or wanderer, you can find dozens on dozens just standing around AFKing by the board. Not doing anything. Should they be kicked out so others who want to craft and help can come in?
With each solution comes another problem. And this isn't taking account IRL with work and school, which really does suck. I do understand wanting to see how things progress, which on Siren .. it's pretty much (so far) stalls for the Script lady to stand and another stall I think. Working on making and lighting braziers for ambience for now.
But the FATE is really just clicking on stuff. No crafting. Click on wood. Click on woodstation. Click on structure. Rinse and repeat. The FATEs are over in less than 5 minutes with the amount of people doing them. I only go into the first ever FATE on Siren (home world) and haven't been able to do another since.
TLDR to possible help:
1. NPCs outside of Firmament to hand in crafted items.
2. No scripts for FATE completion
3. Remove AFKers after certain time length
They cant really gague it based on battle content...What kind of logic is that?4-day event and a third of the worlds already completed it. If this was on purpose, i think it was a bad decision. I'll admit, i was genuinely surprised when i saw so many people doing it. It seems ishguard restoration really gave everyone a great insentive to level and play crafters - Before 5.1, crafting was more of a thing you either get to max at expansion launch, or slowly get up through the expansion, or not at all. This is the first instance of there ever being THIS MANY people being invested in crafting or gathering, there is a reason a load of low level matts on the market board have plummeted in price.
2.0 Veteran from 2013. Just looking to be helpful. DRK is Love, DRK is life.
(Ignore the levels on my character card, the tool i used to make it hasn't been updated for 4.0)
