"Nur dur! piple not pleyin' on libirint! Durr!" If it was a Lv 60 alliance or higher I would totally understand having some concern. But Labyrinth? Get the heck outta here!

My main concern with the loot roll timer is when people don't vote because they want something from that list and think the others will lose their patience and leave if they hold the timer. I love destroying their hopes. I always remind the party that I'm a Lv 80 fisher when I see that it may be happening. I let them know that I can wait all day and they won't get that loot easily. Votes happen immediately after, every time.

I'm not bluffing. I can wait the timer too. I always vote first though because there's a special place in hell for loot timer abusers. :P
I believe that particular example you chose to use is a poor one...

Because if I recall correctly, Labyrinth of the Ancients has The atomos section.

That section requires that four people from an Alliance stand on the pad to another alliance to kill their atomos.

That particular example cannot be completed with only four players participating.

It's not Labyrinth. It's every instance with loot at the end. I've seen people waiting out the timers in every alliance raid, every regular raid, even ARR trials. I have sat through the timer on Ifrit Hard just on principle to make that one person who wouldn't roll wait with me.

There is a really good reason why we have this "long" timers for loot, newbies are watching cutscenes obviously and with a timer taking 1min or even less another party member can just open the chest etc. and the newbie don't have any chance to roll for it.

Some people maybe also need some time to decide what they want or need, reducing the timer to 1min or less will just cause people to just need and greed as fast as they can without thinking about it, because there is no time for that. Waiting 5min for the loot is really fair in my opinion, could be way worse.

Generally, the only cutscenes in battle content are before the last boss of a dungeon or 24-man (outside of the intro, but there’s no loot present there so it’s irrelevant). Only the 24-man cutscenes tend to have any length to them that would necessitate a 5 minute loot timer—dungeon cutscenes and 8-man raids/trials are rarely longer than 30 seconds. If the penultimate loot timer is longer to compensate a long cutscene, that’s fine. But there’s little reason to have all timers at 5 minutes.

As for deciding what a person wants, do people really need 5 minutes for that? It’s also very possible to go into content having your desired loot piece(s) in mind. And I think a decision can still be reached within 2~3 minutes.

The problem is the discussion here started with the 24 player raid because a healer was afk the whole time and cheesed himself through because the loot protects you from being kicked. Still there can be decent long cutscenes at the end of raids which could lead to people who watch the cutscene missing loot, new dungeons also have a lootbox at the end and the cutscene right after it.

The solution here would be to improve the ways to report people and not messing with loot timers. Which is the thing the creator of this thread should have done, report the player who afk through the dungeon because that is against the rules and when your fellow party members do the same you are more likely to let him notice that he may not do that next time.

So the whole thing here is about not being able to punish a player by yourself directly because the loot system protects him. If a player has a bad behaivior and breaks rules etc. then report him, that should be the normal way and even tho you don't get the satisfaction out of it knowing what he got i think you can be sure he gets punished for doing bad stuff like that. Shouldn't be anyways our duty to kick people as we please, there should be way more support inside the game but that's another topic.

It's our duty to remove them so we can get someone in their place who will contribute like everybody else. It has nothing to do with punishment.

Ofc, if the situation is clear but the system can be abused by just kicking people as you please or for reasons that are not even against the rules. Some players kick tanks which pull just one group at once and then it's a form of punishment, you kick someone for being not like you want them to be. The question is if we players have the competence to make such decisions because how we feel is often highly subjective while SE gamemasters going after the rules.

Players once threatened me because i asked them to please roll on stuff so i don't get the same stuff at the end of the dungeon. Gladly, and back to the topic, i was protected by the loot timer.

I stay with my point tbh, players are subjective and often angry and can't think rational which leads to hilarious situations. The game needs more live support/ingame support and faster response. But that costs money, that's why we can handle it by ourself and people getting kicked over hilarious reasons. So a faster report system and a gamemaster who deals with the situation asap would be way better than letting players handle all that stuff, because he is neutral and goes after the rules and not after subjective opinions.

If they do not change the timer I wish they would add an auto pass feature, since I honestly just forget / cannot even be bothered to roll on gear in dungeons or raids.
