It grabs so much hate when you have only 1 mob to worry about. Multiple mobs it doesn't always work out as it would seem on paper. WAR strength plus their abilities allow them to hold mobs like a beast. A PLD has to stay on edge to maintain his threat.

If you think a PLD is on par with a WAR in HATE control you must be in denial. I love my PLD but I'm not going to pretend like a WAR will not do better than me on the battlefield.

Def not in denial I played with a few wars today i can say this Decent pld is on par with a good war for single target tanking, Wars are not built to be the best tanks but they do really well if the players knows what they are doing. I ran into a lot of bad war tanks today doing ifrit cause them holding hate vs 1 mob is on par with a decent pld.

You don't judge a job based on the players, you judge them against each other and don't count skill factor into it.

For instant threat at the start of a fight warrior wins, for sustained threat warrior wins with dps and collusion and the same skills a PLD would use not counting cures that you can't get enmity with from over curing anymore, if you want to risk dying just so you can get full cure enmity be my guest cause it won't bother me if you die at all.

Disclaimer, this is not warrior fanboy opinions. I personally do not care which tank is currently best, I'll play whichever one it is.

Agreed. I play both and not only do I have an easier time tanking Ifrit on Warrior, our kills are much faster than with a Paladin tank. Hopefully the changes make Paladin worth playing as tank again. Hell even the White Mages prefer the Warrior tank since they have a much larger HP pool. There's more room to wait for a heal with Warrior than with Paladin.

Not really o.o WAR takes more dmg. Thats why its HP pool is bigger. And not to be rude but you probably have an easier time on WAR because you are better at WAR, and not as good with PLD. That may be because of some mechanics of the class, or it could just be you. And no matter how you slice it a PLD is easier to heal than a WAR, so I have no idea what those WHMs are thinking. That PLD must not be healing himself because he ran out of mp, which is why they invented ethers lol. PLD should use them and try again!

More room to wait for heals is just incorrect, because it drops farther than on a PLD. On top of that, a WAR can only heal itself with crits, which is much less reliable than PLD self-healing/blocks/etc etc.

PLD = Less damage if we're talking about physical damage and if Defense really worked as well as it should. PLD vs WAR you're trading about 1k HP for 40ish defense, both in full AF. At least before the patch. On strictly physical mobs, it's not bad. On something like Ifrit which does primarily magic damage it's kind of shitty. Defense just doesn't mean as much as it should to really balance out damage taken from Paladin vs Warrior. On multiple occasions I've had some friends who are great tanks tell me to just take straight HP over defense any day.

I played Gladiator more than Marauder, I played Paladin before I played Warrior. I've tried both on Ifrit and I have a much easier time on Warrior. Both geared well enough. I know how to play both well. Paladin just takes more damage from certain mobs and has a lower HP pool. It's not about the ease of healing, it's about all that HP buffer you've got that the Paladin doesn't have. Warrior just isn't in quite as much danger most of the time compared to Paladin.

Paladin = less healing sometimes. I mean the White Mages I roll with are really on top of things and keep me in good health pretty much all the time. I rarely need to cure myself and if I do, as a Paladin I do have that option. However Holy Succor and Cure can't always keep up with the damage you're taking sometimes, not to mention the fact that spells are easily interrupted and as tank you're getting hit constantly.

So any NM, Boss, MOB, etc. that uses a big magic attack... the one with the most HP (WAR) will always be better

not having magic defense and not having elemental resistances on any gear is lame...

My Gladiator has just over 100 more points of defense than my Paladin. It's amusing, honestly.

hmm , our LS has tried many many diffrent techniques, if you ever watched your parse, the majorit of the damage taken from ifrit is done my NORMAL attacks , same with any other boss fight, ( except, arguably, moogle king) fire resists helps where you can put it, but overa def>vit>mind> dext> elemental resist(apropriate element) > hp ( note hp is last). HP = dick if you cant deflect ANY damage. I parse the lowest damage i have ever seen tested on Ifrit, 33k in a 12 minute fight 21 in 10 minute fight and have never stacked HP on any gear. HP is a waist 1k hp gose in about 3 swipes or a tp move durring ifrit. and thats my own chr, soo if you deflect less damage then me (wich if you stack hp , you likely take alot more damage then myself) chancesl are 1k hp is about the first 10 seconds of ifrit fight, othewerise GARBAGE, HP is nothing w/o a way to defend it.

If a bad WAR tank can't tank 1 mob especially Ifrit than they are a lot worst than bad. They should probably just stop tanking all together.

Yes a PLD can hold a single target but a WAR can do the exact same thing and output more damage in the process.
