Just an aside:
The Relic and Empyrean shields are separate size classes. Aegis was a Size 5 with a greater block rate and damage reduction than the others. Ochain is a Size 6 with a 99% Block Rate (100% depending on mob level and shield skill).

Haven't we been screaming for block rates to be reexamined since 1.19?
If I recall.. Block was kind of OP pre-1.19 and underwhelming afterwards

@ Arkine I knew everything you already wrote i was an Aegis pld in FF 11, I was just saying they didn't want THM/CNJ to become what THM once was during the dordore release days when it was soloing everything in the game.
Edit but the most important part of my post is about the huge Dlvl factor in this game I honestly don't think no matter how much they increase the block rate it wont work on higher tier mobs. If you don't know what Dlvl is, its the reason a why a lvl 70 mobs will kill you in a flash and hit you for some absurd number, I can assure you that none of those mobs have the attacking power for the dmg they are hitting for. If you don't fully understand what Dlvl is i could explain it in another post.

Yea... I have issues with Dlvl in the formulae as well... If you want a level 70 MOB to be stronger... give it higher stats@ Arkine I knew everything you already wrote i was an Aegis pld in FF 11, I was just saying they didn't want THM/CNJ to become what THM once was during the dordore release days when it was soloing everything in the game.

Dlvl means you can give all mobs of a certain type similar stats and just let the Dlvl scale how hard the MOB is... its lazy
why is Dlvl even a thing

No Dlvl is present in all rpg's games its not a relic thing its even used in the newest Wrpg's and newer Jrpg's. It was in XI but not to this extreme nature. Like in FF XI I went and poked jormy as a lvl 1 class and he didn't smack me for 9999 dmg but it was like for 1500 dmg.
It was one of the reasons in XI when a class had shit evasion like pld who could dodge a lot of attacks vs a mob who is like lvl 60 but if a class who has good evasion and they was lower Lvl than the pld but had the same evasion number as the 75 pld they would dodge less even tho the numbers was the same this is what Dlvl does it gives you slight edge vs lower lvl players/mobs but it should be to this extreme fashion in XIV.

Doesn't excuse it as being a lazy way to do things. It could be done a lot better. Like having stats matter instead of solely difference in level. Because of this defense is pretty much useless. No Dlvl is present in all rpg's games its not a relic thing its even used in the newest Wrpg's and newer Jrpg's. Did you not read it's not lazy its present in every rpg's it part of formulas... Only thing they need to do is just use less of it and let stats do it's job and no one is defending i hate dlvl when it's used this bad. another game its used poorly would be borderlands if your lvl 10 trying to fight a lvl 15 monster your gonna loose no matter what. XI used it correctly and they can do the same here 80% of the ppl who play rpg's are not even aware of this thing cause most of the time is balanced right.

but it is not in all RPGs... not even all JRPG's...
Dlvl does not appear anywhere in the FFXII damage formulae
Theory debunked
Dlvl is indeed garbage and XI did not use it correctly
