Personally, I've viewed FF14 as a great foundation for a phenomenal game. SE has put a lot into the environment and the smoothness of play. Much of the commands and interactions have been simplified so it's fairly easy to learn as you go. Given all that, I think it'll be around for a good long time.

I am looking forward to the future of FF14. SE and Yoshi-P have hinted at what's coming quite a bit lately.
-It sounds like war is about to break out with the East
-New areas will be available (at the very least in battlefield terms)
-Quests will continue to be added to flesh out the story and tie players to the world they're exploring
-Numerous tweaks and such based on the player's views
    -Class Specific Gear is coming!
    -etc

I think SE has a lot of pride at stake here and they're in it for the long haul. They want this to be a great game and are going to great lengths to make sure that happens.

We could see news articles like. "WOW, FFXIV IS ACTUALLY GOOD!" in half a year?
I have to agree that the PS3 version will be FFXIV's saving grace. If they can re-release the game for the PS3 with a very positive outcome, show significant changes that make it fun or equivalent to FFXI. Then it has a fighting chance.

Quite a bit of FFXI's longevity was due to the fact it was released on 3 different platforms and allowed you to play together on the same servers. Square-Enix realizes this and intends to do the same for XIV.

What alot of ppl do not realize is FFXI was released first in Japan and then came out in the US a year later with it's first Rise of Zilart. Which added alot of new content, areas, and jobs! They did not do this this time around. It's like they released it early to make a launch date for all regions! US and Japan at the same time!

All I'm saying about this is, FFXI had the same rocky start as FFXIV. Thing is we did not realize it in the US because we saw it when all the bugs got worked out by the Japanese players. It still ended up having that Eastern grind style though and was limited by being developed by the PS2 first. (No room for improvement really).

FFXIV is westernized quite a bit, with signs of shedding it's eastern MMO style even more! While I think this is a good thing for the series. There is alot of growing pains ahead.

I just wish ppl would stop moaning so much about how this game will fail. Yes it's missing ALOT of content, but are you paying for a game yet? .... *listens* whats that? No?! Then we really don't have much to complain about.

If you really care about this game, you need to put your constructive beta tester hat back on and help Square- Enix guide this game to be a successful title! They are making effort to listen, are you providing anything to the process?

    Deepnds how you define "Die"

Some people say XI is dead due to Abysseas, others disagree.
Some people say XIV is dead now, others disagree.

Who knows ey? I think like someone posted there is enough fans to keep it going but it will never be "successful" like XI was. That train has gone.

If Yoshi-P doesn't do something Flippin' crazy, this game will die out. They're relying on a killer PS3 launch, with ratings of 90%+. It's the only thing that will save this game. If it doesn't have a killer launch it will fail.

If SE keeps working and pays those ticks called reviewer and puts a lot of effort in advertisements, I bet this game will die, and after 3 days will resurrect.
At this point, players will create a new religion, travelling around the world with the game manual as holy book and spreading the novel: FF14 is still alive.

at most it will float around like warhammer with a small niche, if it turns to that, fan of ff and ffxi or not i'd run for the hills myself. but i'm hoping for it to pull threw and i'm like 70-30 that it does. i don't think any other mmo will ever be what ffxi is for long time so, here is to hopeful wishings.

I highly doubt the game would "die" out. Before the earthquake we had a few people who had just joined the game on Rabanastre and invited to the LS. There will always be people joining it, slowly for right now, but I expect it to get even better. We've all probably heard how bad FFXI was at release, just most of the North American player base wasn't there to see it in the first year and a half to two years of the games life. However...

In December 2003, Square Enix president Yoichi Wada announced that there were over 200,000 subscribers to Final Fantasy XI, allowing the company to break even and start making a profit.[83] There were between 200,000 and 300,000 active players daily in 2006.[84] As of August 14, 2006 the Xbox 360 version was the sixth most played game on Xbox Live.[85]
    Pulled from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_XI

I know it doesn't compete with WoW's insane player base, but going up to 200,000+ players about a year and a half later from JP release, makes me hopeful for this game as well. Also #6 in the most played games on Xbox Live? I'd say that's pretty good.

PS: My first post. (O.o)> Hey all.
