So I tried the new crafting system...

So I tried the new crafting system today as I wanted to finish a few level 80 quests that I didn't get done. I knew my bars would be decimated but I had no idea that the entire system would change this much. 5 years of learning how to craft are out the window and now I don't know what to do. (Yes I'm a battle class main so please be gentile)

    So...

Where do I find a guide, a dummies guide, a "pointy end goes at the boss" version of the guide.

    Or...

Should I just give up on crafting and learn to love the market board?

Not sure why you would need a guide. It's pretty simple to understand and execute now by just reading your tooltips, If anything It's been simplified with less RNG.

Some people have to go back to the beginning when big changes like this occurs. The tooltips don't always point the way.

Not much has changed actually. When I saw my hotbars after logging in I was a bit intimidated by the change too but in the process of cleaning them up I managed to figure out most of what I needed from tooltips, and on the same day ended up making 3 sets of the new crafting + 1 gathering clothes for myself and friends, currently the most demanding recipes available but not that much more difficult than the crafted combat sets. If you were able to make those before, you'll still be able to make them just as easily.

Basically the three biggest changes that came in 5.1 are:
    - Steady Hand is gone, its effect has been pretty much baked into most actions that were 70-90% chance before, now they're 100%
    - All reliable forms of CP restoration are gone. Tricks of the Trade is the only survivor, still situational and not worth planning around
    - Cross-class slots are gone but most of the skills survived the purge and are now simply part of the shared crafter kit

    - As a minor footnote, all the Specialist gimmicks involving bells, whistles and whatever are gone. Someone, somewhere, has shed a single tear for them to the tune of a small violin. Maybe.

Current rotations, both endgame and for regular recipes, still revolve around building up IQ stacks and cashing in with Byregot's. Preparatory Touch and Delicate Synthesis make up the bulk of your actions, Waste Not/Waste Not II, Manipulation and Ingenuity are still the most important buffs to keep in mind, Innovation and Great Strides have lost some of their power and are a bit more situational now but still worth using if you have the CP for it.

For example, my all-purpose HQ macros I use for collectable mass-production are constructed along these lines:
    - Open with Reflect (+3 Inner Quiet stacks from the start, no-brainer)
    - Manipulation + Ingenuity + Waste Not (Ing and WN will line up for 4 steps)
    - Spam as many Preparatory Touches as needed (in conjunction with Reflect, 4 PT will net you 11 IQ stacks but you won't usually, if ever, need that many)
    - (optional) Reuse (if you have the CP for it)
    - (optional) Buff Byregot's Blessing (Great Strides, Innovation, re-apply Ingenuity)
    - Byregot's Blessing
    - Name of the Elements + Brand of the Elements
    - Finish with however many Syntheses are needed

And any recipes lv70 and below (the first 2 items of the new Custom Deliveries client count as 70 by the by) can be done with just:
    - Trained Eye
    - Spam Synthesis

For the current two-star recipes, it's probably best if you look up the specifics on The Balance discord and adjust the rotation to your own gear (Simulator helps a lot).
I personally have the new Facet stuff maxed out but skimped out on accessory melds so I still use Blood Boul... Blood B and the old reliable 2-part macros modified to remove a few unnecessary steps. But as long as you have your CP maxed out and meet the comfy minimums of Craftsmanship and Control (I'd estimate 2200 of each) you can craft anything just fine without having to rely on RNG but should probably think of future-proofing before 5.2.

I like the new crafting, it removed all the intimidating-looking bloat while preserving all the actions people were actually using.

Basically everything is like it was before but simpler.

Sh2 goes away as does comfort zone, inner quiet becomes reflect, level 1/2/3 skills unified, and innovation covers 4 steps.

Careful synth and/or brand/name are basically more powerful than old piece by piece and rapid synth 3. Delicate synth and prep (?) touch are still great. And no cross class skills, no specialist actions, so all your hotbars are the same. So easy easy.

Try Craftaholic Central on discord (via google) - gives you the new rotations and also some explanations to what changed:-)

You don't need a guide. To be honest: the core mechanics are still the same, you just need to work out new rotations.
Use this, if you don't feel like wasting mats.

Oh, and don't bother putting them 50-60% RNG skills on your bars at all. You don't need them.

    I like the new crafting.

Talking on crafting, is there a website that holds ideal macros at tiers of stats? For example I can easily find macros for fancy crafters, but not so sure about those with okay gear just wanting to hit the bare minimum collectability lol.

I want to scrape by on a macro with meh gear, is there a macro for that? :P
