I have looked at the bard performance stuff and realized that it is almost as difficult to learn as a real instrument. But you can play a real instrument outside the game, so the time to learn is much better spend there, especially when the servers shut down one day...

I think there should be a way to program and automate the bard performance within the game, actual learning to play is a waste of your time.

Agreed.
I play flute and very little piano irl so I know the keys right off the bat...
but using KB/M is so annoying than to go at it irl. It's probably worse for controllers.
I'd just suggest people to learn a real instrument than mess seriously into this lol.
It's really fun!

This is how I feel, too. It's oddly comparable to real life, which is funny considering I can cook up hundreds of perfect culinary dishes with no real life training at all or travel from one end of the planet and back numerous time, before lunch. Et cetera.

OP just makes me curious about what's out there to make better use of Perform. I can play music, but can't read it, so the notation in Perform mode excludes me by definition, never mind the clunky octave changes.

You should spend the hours or days it would take to actually play bard music without a player to go learn to make midi files. Then you're still making your own music and probably taking less time.

And how exactly do you think they are going to crack down on it anyway? They can't legally search people's computers to see whether its them or a program sending a key press signal. And if you say you can tell by quality, you're just admitting that it's impossible to play it well by hand.
