    Random NM Trophies

    I am doing this in bullet-point fashion because, well, some people don't bother to read anything longer than a tweet.

    1. Please bring back similar FFXI-style NM with various pop conditions
    2. Please have the rewards be based around trophy items for display (maybe Jaggedy-eared Jack's head as a hat)
    3. Please do not put stats on these items, therefore making camping ENTIRELY OPTIONAL AND NOT CENTRAL TO GAMEPLAY MECHANICS
    4. Possibly incorporate crating into the concept by turning said drops into trophy item/gear

    I started a similar post that was derailed by people who could not grasp #3. Other posts we're also derailed because of this and also because it contained an XI reference. This is more simplified and directly clarified version.

    Please keep the posts on-topic.

    Explanations below (if you want to read further):

    A. Some people want hardcore content, others do not. This is the best solution that I can see as being rational that does not infringe upon the choices of others. Making an NM drop a diesel ring invites botting, hacking, and poor general treatment of others. Sometimes none of these things will happen but the game is a world of minimal consequence (much like these forums) so weak-willed people will likely take advantage of the situation to reinforce an ego that is already fragile.

    B. I enjoyed the experience of camping these and a useless but cute reward would be neat. Others don't care about the same experience or rewards so the mechanics should not penalize them.

    C. This is an alternative mechanic similar to the request for card games or gambling houses. People are running out of things to do and this is a pleasant option for many of us.

    My response to your other thread was a little asanine.

    I support open world content of this fashion. Even upping rewards to be on par with instanced content. It'll help fill the world outside of the instances.

    I just don't want to see top loot coming from claim wars.

    Again, the idea is cool as the OP presents it.

    Even drops with stats that were interesting looking cosmetic sidegrades of things obtainable in other ways would be ok with me as long as everything was balanced effort/risk = rewards.

    Trophies only is a neat idea also. I like the idea of having a trophy case in my house in 2.0. Mind you I don't really do NM's so it would probably be empty, but I would like the OPTION of filling it.

    Like I said in the other thred in different words, don't make the drops useful. Not crafting stuff or stuff on par with other gear, just trophies. Let those who love to camp camp for camping sake! (and for trophy gear!)

    They said we would be able to display trophies and weapons on the walls of our player housing so I support this.

    I am a huge fan of achievements and have killed almost all the bosses in the game so far so anything like this is good with me.

    You say don't make the drops useful, yet it seems most of the threads that pop up about open-world NMs with long spawn times usually centers around competition between various LS's to claim said NM. There's not much of a point of putting special spawn conditions on a mob for a vanity-only item. Hardcores (the definition here being people that will camp something hours at a time) are going pursue something that actually progresses their character, not some rabbit hat with no stats.

    They can make the trophies have a low drop rate, so that it takes more than one kill to get.

    Yoshida has said sought-after gear is coming from instances. So this is NM hunting for the sake of NM hunting. Trophies are the way to go.

    @ Orophin. Did you read all of the OP? That kind of drop leads to all the crap that was wrong with XI. "botting, hacking, and poor general treatment of others" and having only trophy drops keeps them ENTIRELY OPTIONAL AND NOT CENTRAL TO GAMEPLAY MECHANICS.

    This isn't those other threads you read, this is a different one! If hardcores only chase "elite items" that make them one step closer to god mod, i'd be happy if they're not there. I'd be way happy to see the LS's that show off this gear to be runnin around town in bunny hats as trophies instead of carrying weapons or armors that break the balance.
