Assuming premades could be in 8s, and we had 24man back for premade queues, getting 24 people on one DC to queue up and play the mode would be a challenge in itself, sometimes even getting 8 for Feast is a struggle and people will usually be forced to compromise and off-role just so we can play with what we have. But it's largely because there would have to be some kind of unique reward for doing so. Even if premade v premade queue systems existed before it'd be more rewarding for that team to have queued into a normal match and stomp whatever they can. Even if there was a ranked system teams would probably wind up playing just enough games to ensure they're in a position for a reward and then stop when they're safe to not give anyone else a chance at rating, hence why I don't think personally that it'd ever work. Competition for the sake of competition is just not appealing.

I don't know if trying to save these same "new people" who abandoned another PvP mode, so much so that we have to have a "Revival" every weekend, is the way to go either.
Frontlines just needed a new reward or moogle item event. PvP has never had a high retention rate. Why punish the people who actually want to play it?
The more I think about, I just see the 24 man synced queue as ok. It will force those PUGs to lose and make them play more to actually get their items and leave like they would have anyways.

We were all new. Also, where is the relevancy? Rival Wings is the way it is because there no awareness to it now. On release it was instant pops for both Astragalos and Hidden Gorge. It dies because people get there reward and leave. Many NA/EU players who didn't play it during those points still do not even know if its existence because it's legit a side quest and in the bottom of the Queue. If frontlines didn't have a roulette and it wasn't some-what tied to lore it would meet the same faith. The queue time is already rough right on some datacenters to the point where you have to play around prime times for frontlines. I feel if Rival Wings had a roulette it would be more active than current frontlines because less people have the rewards and the player requirement is less than frontlines. I don't want to start a debate on which is more fun in 5.1 because that's all up to preference. But, on Japanese Datacenters they play almost every day since release and as mentioned above it's consider well received by Yoshi P.

Frontlines also has like 3 times as much rewards as Rival Wings. Rival Wings you get White Magitek gorilla and the Black one. Frontlines overall you can get 3 Grand Company Mounts, Black ADS, Yellow ADS, White ADS, and The Field Commander Set. There are some suggestion thread in another forum post in regards to frontlines and rival wings rewards check them out !

The relevancy is you being against the 24 man, which I'm sure is fun for those people, but that is up to preference right?
So why should we care about the New People's fun?
And if the queue is already rough, why do you think that is? You said you never did much Frontlines, why are you so worried about it now?

    Hmmm, maybe?

We should care about new players in general. PvP has a bad reputation on NA/EU. It's one of the biggest reasons we get so little attention. We are lucky the JP community loves PvP so we aren't completely neglected...

It's mostly the people requirement why its rough. But, my main point was that we shouldn't discourage people from playing PvP especially frontlines since it the gateway to the other modes. That's how a lot of us of started getting into feast and rival wings. That's how new players can get interested too.

Uh, I have done frontlines since slaughter was a thing in 2.X. I have 3000 matches played just on my main. I know you seen my primal alt because I have played with and against you several times. As I said I'm no longer worried, I feel like this tread served its purpose already! I played almost 6 hours of frontlines yesterday on Aether. People were doing was "LP Queue" which is basically 4 man premades against other 4 man premades. It was quite fun and fair for EVERYONE involved including the first timers. I got a little addicted hence the 6 hours.

You get to play with your friends, have good competitive matches and harm nobody entertainment in the process.

so what you're telling me is that the only time we actually get FL queues are when people are actually playing the game... where are my 72man pops at 8am on a monday morning?!

edit : shout out to all the lore RPers joining FL queues! you're the true heroes of the 72man queues

why not just make some type of frontline practice mode? there are obviously still a lot of first timers/unsure people around, and it would be less morale breaking than to get frustrated and not want to play the mode again, because lol some beginners got stomped by chuckle f's premade 3x in a row, etc. it's clear that ffxiv needs those "unskilled" players to have better queue times, so why are we mostly trying to disregard them? ffxiv in general is a huge pve-based game, I'm sure the population that signs up for its pvp is low. pvers especially seem to become disheartened quickly if they feel like they have 0 chance in pvp.

as for the practice mode, idk, maybe it should need 20 matches (or wins?? idk) to be able to play in the regular frontline, and tomestones/whatever event goodies would still be obtainable there, but halved (barring wolf marks but idk, maybe those could be halved too). probably off-limits after the 20 games/wins/whatever, save maybe returning players who haven't been playing for over a month, to get up to speed again, if they feel like it.

mainly just an idea for the people interested in pvp, but don't want to get thrown in a potential shark pit while they don't even know what exactly to do.

I don't play RW because I don't like sitting around in a slow mech with so few usable abilities I can count them on one hand that all have hit detection like I'm playing on AOL 7.0
