But on the other hand, how will these people learn if a healer is holding their hands through it? Sometimes a mistake needs to be made in order for a concept to be reinforced, and then the chance of it happening again is greatly minimized.I personally love the rescue ability as a healer. There have been countless times where I've seen people stand in the wrong pathway of an incoming attack or aoe and it feeling of saving them from death to having them thank you is a good feeling. I've hardly or rarely seen healers use rescue to pull someone into death.
Contrary to popular belief, (some) dps are capable of learning from cases where they dont take massive damage / die. Like someone yanking them halfway over the arena.
To be honest I wouldn't care either way, just wanted to point that out.

mighty bold of you to assume people will learn from their mistakes for why they died, instead of just blaming the healer anyways.

"Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ." --Colossians 3:23-24 (ESV)

"..play the game for themselves."
Boi. This is an MMO. Massively MULTIPLAYER Online.
If you want folks to play "for themselves," enjoy BLU, enjoy the gold saucer, enjoy crafting/gathering, enjoy decorating houses, or enjoy levequests.
Otherwise, go play a single-player game. OR; or, just get better at the game.

People don't learn. And if they do, they are more like to learn from somebody dragging them with Rescue than from the hit. In either case it's the healer who has to clean up the mess, it's just more convenient to prevent the damage while there is nothing else going on, instead of waiting for the failure when new mechanics start. Rescue makes healing easier.
The skill could use some boost tho. Personally I would change it into 5 seconds Hallowed Ground which would improve it's usage and utility - and limit the pulling-in-aoe abuse that you mentioned.
The main reason why the Party Finder is not working for the harder content and so many groups disband after few wipes is caused by the players who ignore the comments.
Getting to the phase XYZ once does not mean you are ready to join parties to do XYZ.
Parties should spend most of the time doing the phase that is written in the comment not trying to get there.
Most people who need to be Rescued die more often than Rescue can account for.
The obvious consequence is that Rescue doesn't deny them all that many "reinforcement opportunities".
The more important here is that being pulled across the room therefore ends up the rarer and more memorable event, generally better capitalizing on the teachable moment than the death alone could have.
Also, how useful is the learning opportunity that "having one too few people intercepting meteors is bad" to the 7 surviving players when they're performing the mechanic correctly but nonetheless are spiraled into a wipe by the untimely death you could have prevented?

The few times I've had rescue used on me to yank me out of AoE, I noticeddthat I had been yanked halfway across the room, and started looking out for things.
Getting yanked for the lols is fine too, lighten up
