Why Did you start playing FFXIV and why do you still play?

I started in open beta and bought ce and built a computer just to play. For me I kinda wanted to get in on the ground floor in an mmo and ffxiv was the logical choice as I played ffxi for six years. Despite its troubles I played on and off while still playing ffxi. 1.18 was when I decided to commit only to ffxiv seeing the potential it had when new dev team and yoshi p took over.


What keeps me playing besides the fact I'm enjoying myself is my linkshell and the upcoming end to the 7th umbral story stuff and the release of a realm reborn. I believe this game will thrive and it doesn't have to be number one with subs and such. Number of one doesnt always mean its the best when it comes to certain games. For me it is and always will be ffxiv.

I started playing Final Fantasy XIV because I had many fond memories of XI. XI was my first MMO and to this day I have found myself missing what it once was, not what it has become.

My husband got into Alpha and I got into Beta. We eventually were playing together and Limsa Lominsa was fascinating. There were not enough moles for everyone!!!

I remember wanting to experience the early days of XI again, that feeling that everything is shiny and new, each zone held a little secret waiting to be discovered and new friendships were just around the corner.

When I discovered that Final Fantasy XIV was coming out, I exploded. I wanted to jump into a game that didn't exist yet, with no knowledge of what it would be like or provide for us. I was naive yes, but I didn't care. My excitement outweighed my doubts.

I immediately started contacting everyone I could from XI and brought them together on a forum so we could make plans to come over. Everything worked out well and we ended up on Trabia. I realized that the earlier moments in XI were not about the game but more about the people I gamed with, discovering together, leveling together, learning and growing together.

That is the same situation here, sure not everyone stayed but many did and as a result Tempest, comprised of 3 different linkshells from Asura in Final Fantasy XI is still going strong today. This group of friends continues to make new connections, friends, engage in new achievements and our bonds with this game continue to flourish.

I am excited at the evolution the game has taken and I cannot wait to see how it progresses.

I started playing because I'm a graphics whore and 2011 was the first year I earned my own money so I could actually support a P2P game.
Also because I'm a Final Fantasy fan, obviously.
And because my most loved MMORPG at that time shut down due to too less players, bad decisions of the company, etc.

I kept on playing FFXIV because I enjoyed it.
I started right before the 1.18 patch and since I'm more of a casual a patch keeps me busy for at least the 2 months til the next patch comes. The lore and the world are the most interesting and beautiful out of all the MMOs and I like the mature community ingame.

I started because I left XI in August 2010. I believed wholeheartedly in XIV and that SE was making us a new and better game and that I would love it as much, if not more than XI. I began playing in October 2010. I left, in pure frustration, before my free trial ran out.

I returned when I got the "try it again free" and "legacy" email arrived this May.

I continue playing because I like it, starting to really like/love it; but mostly because my best game friend returned and plays with me.

Always wanted a MMORPG from Final Fantasy, but FFXI was hard to come by down here. So I jumped on the opportunity to get FFXIV instead and have been playing (on and off, it must be said) since. I love it, but I don't have FFXI to compare it with, which is probably for the best from what I hear.

I still play it, simply because it's the only MMORPG that I play, because it looks nice and because it allows me to have different skills simultaneously... And it's not WoW.
