Obviously FFXI had great elements that can be used in FFXIV... but for the love of the twelve 0.5% drops rates was NOT ONE OF THEM /sob
No. Do you want crappy drop rates and time sinks? Don't need to look anymore! Go play lineage2 and it's free.!One of the aspects of FFXI that I just loved was the world NMs. What set them apart and made them fun was that they were just like any other mob - only different in name and level! I'm not a big fan of the large, visually different, and also grouped NMs of the XIV world. I loved the idea that I could solo-camp random NMs and this was a way I spent my downtime in XI - even for crap items! It was just...fun.
At the same time, the XIV NMs that aren't unique in appearance or grouped are...just not fun for the reason that they pop every 5 minutes!
Here are some of the reasons I loved these:
1. Random spawn conditions - This just made each outing more exciting since you never knew if you were going to get lucky. At the same time, I can't tell you how many times I would be traveling from Sandoria or Bastok on chocobo only to take a slight detour to check if JEJ or Lizzy were up. In addition to this, just knowing how to force-pop an NM (placeholders, time, etc) was a huge kick! I killed hours on Eastern Shadow and Argus but not solely because of the drop - a lot had to do with just getting the kill of an insanely rare mob! I also remember rushing right after maintenance to hopefully get claim on some of the more challenging mobs!
2. I met a lot of new friends - I camped JEJ, well, just because he never dropped for people! Long after I got my rabbit charm or empress pin I would often find newer players standing in one spot or traversing an area I knew all too well. Generally, I would stop and help them on THF just because I knew the feeling. And guess what? A lot of these players became friends!
3. There's just something...funny...about accidentally pulling the NM - I cannot say how many times I get a laugh thinking about E.Ranfaure(S) grinds where someone pulled the colibri NM!
4. Crappy droprates - Sure made each drop, no matter how useless, something to be proud of. At the same time, I loved hearing the stories of how someone was just walking through the caverns and happened to come across Argus only to claim, kill, and get the drop! Some of these stories grew into server fables that came up in random parties, even.
Look, I'm not asking for epic drops - that kind of thing can lead (but not always) to some poor behaviors. What I am asking for is the same kind of world NM content that gave us such endearing experiences like the ones in XI with so-so yet unique drops. The drops don't even have to be useful - they can just be for trophy purposes (I love this idea)!
These experiences were so endearing (to me, at least) that I made good on my word - on the final day of the Ifrit server I went down as I always planned to: fighting Jaggedy-eared Jack. It seemed fitting to let the server (and my character) fade to black against the first ever NM that took me down.
Please bring these back!
I don't have pics, but it's a fact that I went 3/12 on Rabbit Charm... as BLM.
Also a fact that 3 GM's came to Garlaige Citadel to congratulate me on my 'achievement'. xD
My signature is edible. Go ahead, try some.
What's wrong with making a World NMs with odd spawning conditions if it doesn't impact you? Oh wait. Today's 'generation' of MMO gamers don't like exclusionary content. Even if said content was a PH NM that took 2-3 hours of killing moles in 1 of 3 groups in Northern Thanalan named Mauling Moley who gave you epeen poin- I mean achievement points, or a vanity item, or a firework. Because you want to be able to afford the same thing as everyone else, in the same amount of time, with the same amount of work. Guess what princesses, that's not real life. Some people go the extra mile, some get lucky, some slack, and some set goals. Some take a long as necessary, some give up quickly. Some people have different priorities.
The reality is, if SE can't make a game that has the sheer scope of VARIETY and OPTIONS that FFXI had in 14, then no matter what they add, people will stop playing. There's room for tons and tons of different types of content to be added in FFXIV, from all MMOs, and from other games/genres. When someone suggests something that will not be available to you because of time constraints, try giving feedback about how to make their suggestion more viable. Not condemn it and them for having such ludicrous opinions, which will clearly affect your personal level of fun, because you can't have what they have. It's stupid. Competition and Co-Operation is what makes MULTIPLAYER games good! End of story. They can and should co-exist.
Don't be a raging penis because you can't see someone else's point of view. Just go about your merry way if can't submit any real, productive feedback. Simply saying, "I don't want this, because I don't want it." or "This isn't ____ game. Quit asking for ____ game's content." is foolish and naive.
All games build upon all games. It's human nature. It's progress. Sometimes the best ideas are turds that were polished and woahhh look out! Found a GD Silver dollar inside. Now let's put it to use.

im with all of this it gives the game a pinch of flavor if not a spoon full, as its putting SEs Signature on their game and i dont think anyone here that have played FFXI ever complained about NMs being "Hard to get" or "Time consuming" as they are only extra content that you can skip them at lower levels and then it starts to turn into a hobbie or an addiction like Kaoz (if you are not familiar with his work Here.) and in higher level one of your goals is to get best gear so i see where NMs fit-in in this equation:
1)High level + Dungeons/boss fights (primal(s)) = Excellent Character(s)
2)High level + Dungeons/boss fights (primal(s)) + NMs = Excellent Character(s)+1
for the last one which is what we are talking about here:
3)High level + Dungeons/boss fights (primal(s)) + Rare/unique NMs = Excellent Character+1
the NM rarity and uniqueness contribute to the sense of achievement (which is the most important element in any game) if you walk around seeing everyone wearing the same gear everywhere heres whats going to happen:
1.the game will be dull.
2.players have no more goals since they reached the "top"
and i'll tell you the reason why NMs are not introduced and will not be introduced in this manner.
its because SE is working on the game to be Casual friendly (am not saying its bad) and its contrary to add Rare NMs that takes alot of time to hunt down and if you do will it drop?
and if they are introduced it will be in a delicate manner e.g. an NM that drops 1 inferno totem(chance) and respawn is 3 days or w/e duo/trio-able. it rewards the player who is into NMs but it doesnt affect the casual player much.
People need to stop using that "Yoshi doesn't have unlimited resources" argument. I ask you kindly to stop being so arrogant. You have no idea, no knowledge whatsoever of what would it take to implement these things, and its not your place to know it.
SE opened these forums to allow for players to suggest things they'd like to see in game and to gauge their response to implemented content.
You don't like camping NMs? That's one thing.
You think there's no room for them in the budget for them? Get your head out of your ass, you're just a player man.
Now to discuss the issue at hand,
These NMs could drop novelty equipment sets and furniture for player houses.
There is a considerable amount of players who enjoy camping and competing for NMs. YOU might not like it, but guess what? You won't like EVERYTHING. Yoshi said he though of an MMORPG as a theme park with content for all sorts of players. That means you won't like EVERYTHING that's implemented. But its pretty obvious a considerable amount of players would like to see this implemented.
How about you people stop trying to rain on other's parade?
Oh and that "the way you asked for this is wrong because you mentioned XI" is retarded. He asked for this because he enjoyed it on XI. THAT'S THE REASON. The reason for this ISN'T just "I want it BECAUSE its in XI" its I want it BECAUSE I ENJOYED it on XI and your company designed the freaking game and they even used the same races, so next time someone mentions an element from XI they like it, take a chill pill man.
Where does it say XIV can't have elements from XI?
More world NMs yes, please.
Long respawn times? No.
Horrible drop-rates? No.
I am ALL for interesting NMs such as weird spawn locations, conditions and the like. But XI's NM system was pretty terrible for me and lead me to almost never utilizing the content. XIV? I've camped pretty much every NM, and the drop rates are bearable mixed with the fast respawns.
I do think that content for people to compete for should exist if there are people that want it, but please don't make the entire game that way. One of my biggest dislikes about XI was the inability to just decide you wanted to fight something, but you might have to wait hours or days only for a chance to even claim it, let alone fight or kill. I want to see more challenge focused in the actual defeating of monsters than simply in claiming them.
