If you don't see how that's not the same as telling someone not to play, then I've lost all hope in these forums.

Telling someone to not eat cheeseburgers because they don't like lettuce on it is what you are doing. It is very easy to play a game and not participate in one aspect of it that you do not like, IE a burger with no lettuce.

As for anyone who says something along the lines of "Don't mention FFXI" or "Come up with an original idea"... open your damn eyes and realize there are no original ideas in this world anymore, only different ways to combine them. Use the concepts from FFXI and find a way to combine them with the concepts from Aion, WoW, and Rift.

WoW and Rift have NMs that look like normal monsters but with special names that popped any where between every 1 and 24 hours. Is the OP now validated because other games have the same basic idea he is proposing or are you still adamantly against it because FFXI did it also? FFXIV is going to have a weapon's dps displayed in the tooltip and pretty sure WoW does that too; would the idea be any less valid if FFXI had the same feature?

I wish people would stop trying to come up with these analogies, because they don't fit. This game is not a cheeseburger. When you get a cheeseburger, you can order it without lettuce, and you can easily pick out the lettuce without it affecting the rest of the contents. Getting that lettuce on your burger does not cause the restaurant workers to devote less time on the rest of the ingredients in the burger. A cheeseburger is something that you can easily toss aside, send back to have it redone, or lose without any serious regret of your monetary or time investment. That is not possible with MMOs.

When there's an item that I want, I would like a fair chance to get it and to be able to have something to show for my efforts. I want the same for my peers. And I want the developers to not waste time creating content for a vocal minority, because creating any content in this game means that resources must be diverted from one area to another and because it can go against the overall vision of the project.

The NM spawn system in this game is superior to what it was in XI.

I played XI. I loved XI when I had tons of free time to kill on a daily basis. I am not playing XI anymore. I am playing XIV. Do not make XIV into an XI clone.

It's the little things like this that make this game so much more accessible and fun. Claiming that people don't have to camp something if they don't want to is absurd: If you want the item from an NM you will camp it, so forcing a system down everyone's throats when the current system is perfectly valid just seems silly.

With the update there's some decent competition at NM's now, so I've actually gotten my fix of outclaiming people. It's fun, but only because it's not an hour between pops minimum while you kill 12.5 minute respawn placeholders to then compete with someone else for the NM and then vs RNG for the drop. The current system makes it much friendlier.

This is what I like, and if they can keep the 1-5 minute respawns, they can add some other pop conditions (as long as they're not totally f'ed up like Leshy/Vilma/whatever). There is enough competition now to make them interesting from that aspect, but nowhere near the teeth-grinding frustration that it was to camp NMs in FFXI.

The goal of the thread was to bring this mechanic back while making it totally optional - i.e. trophies or useless accomplishment gear. Thus making it ENTIRELY AN OPTIONAL ASPECT OF THE GAME. It was in the OP, I restated this numerous times thereafter.

FFS do people just chime in with opinions before reading the entirety of the initial message?

Im sorry but the NM spawns in FFXIV are definitly not superior to FFXI. All the NM's that are in the open world in FFXIV are boring and drop nothing good. Except for maybe the stronghold NM's other than the NM's in FFXIV are laughable and thats being nice.

Making NMs how they were in ff11 with the horrible drop rates and spawn times is a bad idea.

Frankly I'm getting really tired of these long-winded threads asking to make the game less fun/more like FFXI.

I'm all for adding changes to NMs, but how about some NEW ideas that are FUN? Such as, having players gather rare items from mobs and gathering points around the world and then using them to "summon" NMs. This way there's no waiting around for a mob to "spawn" (which is so game-y and immersion breaking), it creates an interesting new items to sell and trade to improve the player economy, and it makes hunting NMs more complex and interesting, which is what I think the OP really wanted, even if they didn't realize it.
